oh, and generally when people speak pure english w/o a word of filipino, people will look at you. (english with SOME words in filipino = konyoooo) this is assuming you weren't speaking any filipino languages while you were there.
all filipinos speak english but out of respect, most filipinos would rather that you talk to them in their own language. it's kind of like, sure you left the philippines, but you haven't lost track of your roots kinda thing. b/c if you speak all in english, it's not rude or anything, but their attention will be drawn directly at you because it sounds so weird and foreign to hear someone speak entirely in english w/o codeswitching or anything.
of course, i don't speak tagalog when i'm in the philippines so i get stared at sometimes.

of course they're gonna stare. they are aware that ur swagger, ur demeanor, and how well fed you are (healthy western food), and ur accent as a sharp contrast to theirs.

Yeah! I have the same situation too. I ask my cousin, why are these people starring at me? And she said bcuz you look kinda different ..parang kkaiba ka sa paningin nila...I'm not Tisay I'm Filipino & 1/3 Chinese I've seen a lot of Koreans & Caucasian over there in Manila but people don't stare at them that much. Me and my cousins always take a taxi cab & most of this taxi driver ask my name. They were like Whoaa! whats your name? my reaction was WtF ,that happens to me often. So me and my cousins were just looking at each other like wht d hell!.
When I was in the Philippines I wore a simple clothes even when I'm at the mall, it's just a shorts but not too short & a simple t-shirt.And I speak straight tagalog w/o accent & I don't speak a lick of English when I was there.
