Wild elephant attacks teenager in northern Son La province
06/25/2004 -- 16:45(GMT+7)
Son La, June 25 (VNA)- A rampaging wild elephant attacked a teenager working on his cultivated land in a restricted forest area of Phieng Cam commune, Mai Son district, in the northern province of Son La on Wednesday.
The female elephant, estimated to weigh over 2 tonnes, not only attacked Phang A Thenh, 17, but also damaged crops grown by local people.
Before attacking Thenh, the elephant appeared in Nong Tau Thai village, a local official said, adding that it may have come from the neighbouring district of Song Ma. On Friday morning, local people said that they still saw her ranging about in the forest of Nong Nghe village.
Currently, local authorities and forest rangers are working to protect both local residents from attack and the wild elephants from being poached.-Enditem

This is all man's fault. We're encroaching upon their territories and feeding ground. No food, they go into corn fields and villages to find food. A clash of man and beast ensues.

2 tonnes is actually 2000 kilos, which is approx. 4444 lbs.

Oh, but still, I don't think that boy would notice the difference between 2000 or 4400 lbs if the elephant stepped on him ..

No that wasn't the point, my point was to correct your conversion of tonne to pound. LOL
