got this from a blog dgk.or.id

1. Galasin.

We call these 'cowrie' shells in Kenya. It used to be the currency of trade in the East African tribes. It's found along the coral reefs here. Many tribes still use it for their decorations even though it is no longer used as a currency..

how to play it?

The "Ca5tek" has a rubber piece(usually old tyre innner tubes) at the base about the size of an Aust 50 cents piece(3cm round radius), it had a nail though the centre of the rubber to which either goose, duck or chicken feathers were tied to it(usually about 4 feathers). And you played it a bit like sepak takraw.

Did anyone play with bottle caps as a child? Or the rubber inside the bottle caps?
Bhaskara
Hmmm..I never played that "catek", I think. We do play with bottle caps, but not in that kind of game.

Majapahitans
I love galasin the most

And Kites

Prau123
In the Philippines we have a very similar game to Galasin, and it's called Patintero. It's being re-popularized as a type of national game. It is perhaps the most developed of sports games indigenous to the Philippines (and of course it's indigenous to Indonesia as well) that I can find with the exception of Sipa Sipa which has similarities to Sepak Takraw. Patintero is also called Tubigan or Harangang Taga.

I actually didn't know that Indonesia had the same game until I read this topic. I did some checking, and it turns out that Galasin and Patintero do not have any relatives outside of Austronesia. The chase/tag games of Europe and America and elsewhere do not have the lattice diagram. So it's safe to say that Galasin and Patintero are indigenous to Austronesia.
Majapahitans
^^That's what I love about AF, I can learn new things about our neighbours and discover how much we have in common...

Oh yeah, in 4th grade I broke my hand playing Galasin, I was run soo fast to avoid the guard and can not stop and hit a wall, hard..., but my hand position is wrong, it hurt soo bad..., luckily as a kid I heal fast...
maharlikangpilipino
^wow that's very nice.. it's a new thing to me.. I didn't know Indonesia has a traditional game similar with the patintero of the Philippnes.
really nice

I remember when I was a kid, when the road/court didn't have any lines.
we used water or chalk to draw the line.

From the Philippines I share with our friendly Indonesian neighbors my favorite traditional games

1. playing the trumpo/turumpo

AND

2. Tumbang preso(lit. means fallen prisoner)

http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Tagalog/Filipin...ng_pilipino.htm
Majapahitans
Here trumpo/turumpo is called Gasing

In Indonesia there are many types of Gasing,

My favorite type is bamboo one, typical gasing in Java especially Yogyakarta, Central Java and West Java region
Because it have hollow inside and a hole, it can make a humming sounds when spinnin.
