Hi guys,

I would just like to start a thread on indonesian slang words. I would like to know the usual kinds of words that you guys back home use when talking to mates/friends etc.

As a result of going to www.kafegaul.com to attempt to learn more everyday type indonesian i have been exposed to some serious slang, its comming to me in bucket fulls and i have been able to translate a few but others i havnt and its really getting to me embarassedlaugh.gif2 .

So i'll start with 1:

gebet = what does this mean ? really. I have tried to look it up on the internet and i have not been able to get a definitive answer to what it means.

Cemburu = ' dont get annoyed ' ? benar ngk ?

Maybe just as you guys list pictures of hot indonesian women and men so that people who have never been to indonesia can see the great abundance of beautiful people we have, i think this would be a good place to list the great abundance of indonesian slang words & acronyms, so people like me can understand them when we travel to indonesia. biggthumpup.gif

What do you think ?

If we don’t care for somebody/something, we can say: “So what gitu loooooh”

You also can use this slank proverb:
"Naik pesawat ke Gorontalo
So what gitu looo…." biggrin.gif

If we’re sorry for one’s unlucky but also laugh at him, we can say: “Kasiaaan dech loe!” biggrin.gif

and also add this to your dictionary: biggthumpup.gif

-ya oloh, tollong!
-lambreta
-plis deh!
sido
"Kasiaaan dech loe!": haha yeh i know this one, it has to be accompnied with a certain tone in the voice right. Ive copped this one before

"ya oloh, tollong" : Yeh heard this to, went bushwalking with a girl and she fell into a big mud patch ... obviously this was followed by huge laughter from me and then followed by a "ko ketawa sih .. ya oloh, tollong dooong" embarassedlaugh.gif2

"lambreta": Never heard this one, this is new confused.gif

"plis deh": This is obvious biggthumpup.gif

this is just a new meaning of Banci.
there are many words that r redefined in Gaul Slang

just like banci that is being redefined, word "mampus" is now used to refer to "sangat" beside " Abis" and "Banget"
so for "sangat kaya", we can say Tajir mampus or Tajir Abis or Tajir Banget....
lately banget is pronounced Bang-Get ( the idea comes from the way bule pronounce it ). especially in slang idiom "Gue Bang-get ( its soo me )

Thank God for standard bahasa Indonesia and bahasa Malaysia. Otherwise, I'd really need to have subtitles to understand Indonesian movies nowadays. Some of your slang words are pretty difficult to pick up! So, "Gue Banget" means "It's so me", eh?! I've always thought it meant I Like, as in "MTV, Gue Banget!" Doh!
udin_aja
Tell us about malaysia slang, Malaccan.....
i dont understand some of the malaysian slang especially words they put in the end of a sentence...like jer, je, ke, etc..
