hmmm... just of the many stories I heard in my first ever Bahasa Indonesia lesson.

A story from a Filipino who travelled to Indonesia.

he was asking the Indonesian waitress for soap in english. the waitress coudn't understand. so the Pinoy guy attempted communicating through actions. still the waitress couldn't understand. then he said "sabon" surprisingly the waitress understood.

the lesson of the story: it's better to communicate in Tagalog than English with your fellow Indonesians.

did that really happen? what did the waitress say afterwards?

btw, my favorite bahasa indonesia word is langit-langit. hehehehe sounds so fun.

I imagine the waitress continued talking to him in Indonesian, assuming he understands it anyway There's a Pinoy I knew back in uni years who looks sooo Indonesian that every Indo student talked to him in Indonesian straightaway without even bother to check whether he's Indo or not

I see some other forums have it. I think it'll make easier for the people who want to learn bhs indo, they don't have to make a new thread (we've got around 3 threads bout indo lang) or search for it.

I will finish the Bahasa Indonesian language course in May but that's just basic. If I get lucky, I might have more opportunities to become fluent in the language. The good thing about the Indonesian embassy here is that they offer cultural immersion programs where I can really enhance my knowledge. heheheheh If I become fluent in bahasa indo, I'll put up a file in the internet of me singing Anggun's Sang Penari. hehehehe Or better yet, I'll translate a Tagalog song to Bahasa Indonesia. hehehehe

Other embassies should emulate the Indonesian embassy's programs. These programs really enrich people's mind and make other people appreciate other people's culture. Even the French embassy doesn't really have programs of the same kind. Well I don't know if Beaujolais and sort-of-elitist cocktail party counts. Come to think of it, do French people have traditional dances? We've never really touched the subject in our class.

Universalistic or particularistic (standardized rules or flexible)?
specific or diffuse?(involvement of personal relationships)(high=diffuse low=specific)
neutral or effective (show emotions?)
achievement or ascription (how do you get status, schooldiploma or achievements/experience)?
sequential-synchronic?(one task at a time or many things at once)

I think i got the basic idea myself, but help is appreciated.

yes...theyre so many underground rock music scene.....they even more popular than some major label rock band...

here are some famous underground rock bands :
Koil ( the first underground rock band in Indo), Seringai, The Brandals, The Cangcuters, Siksa Kubur, Purgatory, etc....
you can see their show in every music party along with major label band.....
