Full Version: Chinese and Filipinos had immigrated to Mexico in the past

I seen some on this board talking about some Spanish blood in the veins of Filipinos. But, you guys know it was the other way around too? There once was a sizeable Chinese and Filipino presence in Mexico. Mexicans today won't acknowledge this history. In their culture, it is a shame if you mistaken them for Chino or Filipino even to this day.

I met one Mexican girl who had my same Chinese surname. Her grandfather was a Chino immigrant to Mexico way back in the days. But, this girl only claim Mexican identity and Mexican pride. She doesn't even want to get to know a bit about her Chinese culture. This is the effect of Mexican racism and how they view Asians. That girl was also living among a neighborhood with a lot of gangs. Man, I feel sorry for her because she is still part Chinese afterall. Even though she don't look Chinese, she should not be ashamed of her grandfather.

haha. that's not new. there are tons of Chinese in Manila and Malays who emigrated during the Galleon Trade. some of Mexico's barbers were Chinese "from Manila" thus "chino de manila".

but i don't think all of them consider it "shameful".

You have to understand that Latin people are very proud of their nationality. The same goes for Filipinos any mention of a Filipino in the media, and you will start to see the our flag or youngsters stating "Flip prid"e or "Mabuhay ang Pilipinas". Even chinese filpinos especially second generationa nd more are the same if almost indistinguishable culturally from most Filipinos.

Dont take it t personally it has nothing to do with you guys, her reality is a Mexican one not Chinese. She has no connection to that culture other than the blood in her veins.
