As you know, the media representations of Indians in the media is very negligible, so I wanted to compile list of Indians who appear on Televisions and are well recognizable.

My list are:

Sanjay Gupta (CNN Doctor)
Sanjaya Malakar (although he is half-indian)
Uma Pemmaraju (Fox News)
The Desi Doctor in ER (She was in Bend it like Beckham)
The guy in Pizza Ad (I am also seeing him in Jon Stewarts' show nowadays)
Sendhill Ramamurthy (Heroes)

The topic should have read, "Most well know IndianS on TV"

Joya Das - Former Bloomberg Anchor

I think I may have heard of Joya Das, but never heard of Kiran Chetry - but then again, I don't watch Fox News.

Isn't there some reporter named Sumi Das?

There was this nickelodean show about space a long time ago, and there was this indian actor on there! The show got cancelled though.

As most forumers here are from U.S., I didn't see any reason to emphasize to it. So, if Tenji can correct it please change it to Most Well Known Indians on U.S. TV

Definitely Naveen Andrews, he is on the big show lost, even though he is supposed be an Arab.

How come no one has mentioned Russell Peters yet? Is it because he's Canadian? (In that case, Naveen Andrews and Parminder Nagra are British)

ok ok people, no halfies(like Sanjaya), because then a $hitload of people like Norah Jones and crap could be listed. Also only people who are in American Media so people like Jimi Mistry(whose also a halfie) don't count.

I don't think she plays as an "African Women". The reason i don't think she was given an indian name was because it would go against the "greek" sounding colonials and their myths.

Ah ok, a more deeper analysis of the show. I never knew it was that deep. I figured she was black because...

1. Dark Skin
2. European Name
3. Perfect English

I read it was East Bangladesh that his dad was from, but since you guys mentioned those names I guess you guys are right?

What about people with Rajput? I know a paika whos Grandfather has that name. Couldn't Sanjayas folks just moved over to East Bengal?

I guess they changed his Wiki, but here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjaya_Malakar

Now it doesn't say which Bengal icon_neutral.gif
