It is interesting that she doesn't state she is Filipino in her bio.
She just has this generalized background of Asian Pacific Islander Native American mixed.
I don't think she was born in the U.S. it sounds like she was born in either N. Zealand or the UK or immigrated there at a young age. A-Levels is part of the British educational system.
Don't be so tough on the girl she has stated:
QUOTE
There aren’t any roles specifically written for a Filipino girl? Instead they’ll say oriental, Chinese or Japanese? My sister and I get called in for these roles, people have struggled with the fact that I’m Filipino, they think I’m mixed? I’d be waiting in a room full of girls who are really Chinese or Korean, and I just know I’m not what they’re looking for?
There are Filipina descent actresses in the U.S. but they don't necessarily play Filipino characters. Usually they play other Asian ethnicities or the ethnicity is not mentioned.
Asia Carrera has played a variety of roles-a Hawaiian girl, a part Japanese and Black character in "Rising Sun" with Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery etc.
The ship/hologram on Andromeda.
Hey, I've experienced that.
My friend who is 3rd generation Japanese and I went to the casting call for the "Joy Luck Club".
They selected me as an extra, so I went to the location.
The scene shot was of these sisters stepping out of an old fashioned car and dressed in period clothes from the late 1930s or early 1940s in front of a mansion.
Anyhow, there were 2 other girls who were there as well all of us with the same build and height.
They just needed 2 girls for the scene.
Anyhow, I was made up along with the other girls and put in period dress.
In the end though I wasn't chosen and just sat and watched the filming and ate the food that was brought on the set. I did get paid of course, so I still have the check at home. (I was a bit dissapointed that I didn't get in the scene. I actually went home and forgot to cash the check.)
Why didn't I get picked in the final analysis?
Well, the makeup artist or casting person said, "You look too healthy." (The characters were supposed to be sickly looking.) I can only interpret that has being a bit on the ruddy or tannish side. However, I could be made to look pale and sickly with makeup. So maybe its because I was Filipino and not Chinese.
It's really the director's call.
Anyhow, show biz its tough and is better for people with thick skins.
