Forbes Magazine in its latest issue reports that the Philippines has three of the world's largest malls.
SM Mall of Asia is ranked #3. SM Megamall #5 and SM City North EDSA #9.
Forbes also said Asia is home to eight out of the 10 leading shopping malls in the world, including the 3 SM malls in Metro Manila, 1 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and 4 in China.
Forbes Magazine based its ratings on the "Gross Leasable Area" - the number of square feet the property has for revenue-generating activities like retail, dining and amusements.
The image of a mall-craze Philippines moved a notch higher last year with the opening of the SM Mall of Asia, a world-class shopping destination with a priceless view of the famed Manila Bay sunset.
At #9, the SM City North EDSA which has a gross leasable area of 3 million sq. ft. is larger than the largest in the U.S. which is the King of Prussia Mall located in Philadelphia at 2.8 million sq. ft.

^ It's probably due to existing laws here in the US, limiting the maximum allowable size of a commercial complex.

I would have to say that the Mall of Asia is quite overrated in the sense that it only has 2 storeys while it stretches around a large land area. It should have had more floors though. But there's still room for expansion. I've read somewhere that a coliseum is planned to be built there. Hmmm....this would remind me of Gateway Mall.
About Trinoma, thank God the North Edsa area will now have a posh mall. SM North edsa, despite being a crucial mall for Quezon City residents, is getting old already. It's entirety needs a major renovation.

if MOA had more floors it would be in danger of collapsing or sinking into the ground since it's built on reclaimed land. it's divided into separate buildings instead to spread the weight.

The SM in Baguio sucks. Aside from many pine trees were cut down, it's shaking when there's some gig and when it rains, it pours..literally. You need payong inside if it's raining outside.
But I do have a feeling that SM Baguio won't stay long. It's not really gaining much profit. Hehehe. I have a relative who used to work on the Admin and she can look at the Financial statements

But I'm praying that SM will really die... will pull out of the city because it isn;t gaining profit.

aaahhh i see. personally i hate those big brand names like Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Burberry etc etc etc... i lose the urge to shop cuz those names intimidate me. theyre too expensive!! thats why i like Philippine malls cuz most brands are affordable, unlike the other asian countries who fill up their malls with high end retail.

dnt wrry filipinos are not alone. thats why alot of foreigners enjoy shopping in the Philippines bcuz they can get cheap bargains they cant get in from their home countries..
i have a number of friends and acquaintances who told me this bout the Philippines.
theres this friend i have who lived in Thailand with her family, she said the brands there are too expensive for her. she went on vacation to the Philippines and shopped like crzy cuz it was cheap and good quality.

Ayala Malls and SM Malls differ since the former caters to the upscale class, and the latter to the masa. Although SM North Edsa's The Block caters to the same people as Trinoma, my observation is Trinoma can still beat out The Block with the quality of materials used, lighting, ambiance, and design. Errors made by Ayala in Greenbelt and Glorietta were corrected in Trinoma, although it is said that SM will observe Trinoma for 1 year and look for possible errors, and correct them in the new proposed SM North Edsa.
The design of Trinoma is nature-based, meaning there will be a lot of green and water areas in the mall. The main entrance (North Avenue cor. Mindanao Avenue) is visible from the outside, you can see that there are a lot of plants and small trees located there.
Tentative schedule for opening is May 3, although this might move since delays are being experienced as of the moment. There are also slight changes in the architectural design, but ALL people in the project, from owners, project managers, contractors and subcontractors, are doing everything to catch up with the scheduled opening.
As of the moment, tenants are already setting-up their shops....
