the US never wanted us to be a state.. only a colony. they had over 40 years of control over us to do that yet they didn't. probably because 82 million Filipino-turned-Americans can actually place as American President a Filipino!

anyway, history tells us already that they never wanted us to be part of the Union as a 51st state.

people like pamatong are very ignorant, our ancestors fought hard for centuries so that ther would a free philippines. i think the philippines today is a shadow of the us, i'm not saying that it is controlled directly by the us, but it is directly influenced by many of it's aspects. economically and militarily. even culturally. so thought the philippines is free, the fact that globalization is real, the philippines is just affected by america and the west.

America doesnt need to hold your hand. and is not going to hold your hand. Filipinos need to stop being lazy. Americans will not ever be open to filipinos bringing their problems to our people by becoming a state. It will never happen.

i think this thought of seeing third world people as lazy is an old american/western colonialist look, kinda how they use to call everybody not up to standard, western standard as "backwards". to me their term backwards means yeah we have a culture and we plan to keep it, just because you think letting go of our culture would help us get to teh better pot of gold or the greener side of the grass dont mean we have to, money and prosperity aint the only thing to our less materialistic society, and the fact that these colonialist could enver picture themselves on those peoples shoes, and looked down upon them as if they were poor creetins who need guidance, had made them see us as creatures that are killing themselves and not working for their own good. i mean they always praised themselves when tehy gave us "civilizing" and education. but they never see that their bad interventions like exploitation of the people.
i had this mid age white lady in class and she always talked like she knew everything. i don't mind some of her points were good, but she always insisted on her belief that africans today are killing themselves and that modernization are killing them because they don't know how to handle their own selves. my political science prof came and said that this attitude of her is called "old middle class" a very liberalist point of view. because my prof who work with african countries directly have argued with her that it is not the modernization of the country that is lagging them behind its the fact that there are other components that many non africans don't see because we ahve many things that they don't have and they could very well establish modernization without the negative effect of foreign intervention, they have teh potential to tell the rich boys, it's just that they have not come up with it yet, it's not the fact that they cannot ever roll with the rich boys.
it's easy to say yeah their lazy cuz they don't work for their own good, but have they stepped on the shoes or have seen teh actuality? nope.

yes, there are moves to change the type of government to a parliamentary-federal. the philippines as of now is a presidential-unitary government. if they will push through with the former, i'd suggest the RP should be still be Presidential and Federal.
placing us on a Parliamentary system wouldn't change anything except that the Prime Minister gets to control the Legislative and Executive branch of the government.
changing to a federal system, however, can help us since each federal region(not state like the US*), can concentrate their taxes from their own population on the same region unlike today when a Filipino who pays taxes gets to see it being spent on Manila and other urban areas only.
*btw, the united states is a wrong conotation since a 'state' is comprised of a people with sovereignty, a definite territory and has a government. so that means they are separate from one another but since the USA has only one federal government ruling all other elses, it's only a one state. i learned that in polsci.

scrap the parliamentary crap, if you can't work good with what has been working for a century how you going to work with something new, what's the sense. and also parliaments are for countries that are not republics, i think we should keep the same republic that the revolutionaries had started. many filipinos think that total change will solve the problem, it's not change its revision of what you got.
