Full Version: Why Do Black People Celebrate Fourth Of July?

The 4th of July signifies independence, yet black people were still slaves.

I think there should be a "black fourth of July" so to speak that occurs when the slaves were freed.

It's like white kids celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. day...
ranmatatsumaru

I'm pretty sure that white people do celebrate Mr. Luther King, Jr. day
Kulong
Why do any non-Caucasian-American celeberate Fourth of July, period?

good question.
I guess some people believe that if they live in the States they should celebrate it's birthday, regardless of where they're from

That's true. The 4th is a national day, not an ethnic day. It is a celebration for all citizens of the country.

They don't truly understand what they are celebrating though. They are celebrating birth of a nation that is foundamentally racist up until around the 1950's. A nation that practiced slavery for more than half of its existance. A nation that today, invade soverign foreign nations unprovokedly and dictate international affairs.

Nevertheless Fourth of July is the birthday of the United States of America and it was founded by Europeans. Not Africans, not Asians, and definitely not Hispanics.

It's funny how so many zealous U.S.-worshippers always use the arguement that "If you don't like our country then leave." That's how dictatorship starts. Except once the dictatorship is in place, you WON'T be able to leave.

Your attitude is against the very supposed U.S. values themselves. Without criticism, there won't be progress.

It's funny how the likes of you critize other countries for not having "free speech" yet you are crushing the very thing you are preaching. embarassedlaugh.gif

Well, didn't you ask why non-Caucasian Americans should celebrate it? Isn't "Caucasian American" an ethnic classification? Aren't you therefore implying that ID4 is to be celebrated by the Caucasian American ethnicity only, thereby making it an ethnic day?

That's extremely similar to what people on Stormfront say when they advocate racially cleansing the US of all non-whites. sure.gif
As I said before, it is a national day, not an ethnic day, and that means it is a celebration for anyone with an American citizenship i.e. an American national.

I don't really celebrate it. Neither do any other blacks that I really know. I mean some go to parades and crap like that and might have parties just because the 4th gives em an excuse to throw one, but "Independance Day" really isn't meaningful to us.

"Caucasian-American" is in no way an ethnic group. They all have different backgrounds. Some are more French, some more Irish, Italian... etc.

I am not saying people shouldn't celebrate Fourth of July, but before they do, they must realize what exactly they are celebrating and not just enjoying a day off and have bbq parties.

Yeah, but no one has an economy and planning like the US does. Not to mention it is the most diverse population, has the best military, and basically leads the world in everything except manual labor manpower.

The Patriot Act? Every country has something similar. I bet you don't even know what the Patriot Act is about, only what some conspirocy theorist told you.

It consists of all the Caucasian (eg European) ethnicities and excludes all the non-Caucasian ethnicities. Thus, it is an ethnic classification

That's understandable. You come from a country that is "worse" than the U.S.

Most people who come from poorer, less-developed, or more-strictly ruled nations tend to like the U.S. more because they gained something they never had before.

But those of us who are originally from a nation where we already had freedom and democracy, we can see past all this fireworks and how U.S. really is.

You are just enjoying the mood created by this day and not celebrating what it really stands for. It's like people celebrating Christmas to give and receive gifts instead of celebrating the birth of Jesus.

How does pointing out the true meaning of Fourth of July and Christmas have anything to do with "not liking the U.S."?

What does you loving this country have anything to do with your supposed psychic ability to know what your founding father and Jesus want for you?
