Full Version: Japanese inventions that are actually useful?

People like to say Japan is technologically advanced and that theyve invented many things. However I cant name a single useful thing invented by the Japanese. When you google Chinese Inventions, Roman Inventions or British Inventions youre greeted with dozens of links giving out lists of various useful inventions. But when you google Japanese inventions you tend to find things like 101 Most useless inventions or retarded Japaneses inventions. This got me thinking, have the Japanese actually invented anything useful?

Im talking about useful inventions. Things that revolutionized the world. The printing press, the computer, radio etc. Therefore no unnecessary inventions like the playstation or anime.

I think Stephen Hawking said that all inventions are important.

Plus the revolutionary inventions that you are talking about didn't come all at once since it was created with the existing technology, both useful and 'non useful'.

yeah they call it Honda and Toyota.

i don't think Japanese are known for "inventing" stuff...they're better known in "improving" on things.
moobie
they're known for improving things, marketing better, acquiring intellectual property intelligently, etc. but for inventions, they're still second to the US and no one else, and that's because the US has massive funds and resources to draw from. japan usually invents things when they need something and other countries are unable to provide.

iirc they invented a type of radio signal transmitter and fiber optics signal transmitters, made the first bullet train (not talking about maglevs).

just saying that's "improvement" is a gross understatement; things like that take a lot of sophistication and ofen it's completely unrelated technology.

Oh come on... Stop belittling other people because you can't find a thing invented by them. I'm sure they have lots of inventions that are useful and are more innovative. Come on, why is a toyota or honda better than a gmc or chevy?

The most prolific inventor in history, Yoshiro Nakamatsu, is from Japan:
