That $hit's called commercial hip hop. There's a reason why they play it in the clubs. Most southern rap is fat bass and dance music, that's the culture there. The culture in Socal is different which is why less club bangers are produced. If you believe that club bangers are true hip hop, then i got nothing more to say to you. The bay has produced its share of respectable lyricists such as Yukmouth, Mac Dre, and Tupac (if you want to consider him an Oakland rapper) but yet they are all overshadowed by a mainstream artists who rap about stupid materialistic $hit like E-40.
well what's true hip hop? snoop dog? dr dre? eazy e? gangster rap? when hip hop started out in new york, they were about sik beats and rapping about their addidas shoes, break dancing, graffing, their clothes, parties, or whatever. that's what hyphy is about. they rap about their stunna shades, their vans or nikes, their scrappers, their white t's, their dance style and just straight partying. so in sense, hyphy is pretty true to what hip hop started out as. LA hip hop promotes killing, gangs, fights, and drugs while sampling old funkadelic beats by george clinton. is that hip hop? how can you mention yukmouth and mac dre, their good and all but oakland has way better once. hieroglyphics, for instance are pretty much the michael jordans of underground rap. too short spiced up the hip hop lingo and pretty much introduced that bass sound to hip hop. as for tupac, as much as LA heads don't wanna admit it, he is oakland till the day he died. the only reason why he stayed in LA for so long was because fo suge knight's punk @$$. nobody knew who tupac was until he came to oakland and joined digital underground. he was already a mainstream hip hop artists even before he moved to LA. even with his first album with death row, most of the fools he had on that album were e40, dru down, rappin 4 tay, richie rich, yukmouth and them. those were the true nggaz that he rolled with. even in his "california love" video, he rep oakland.
