Stop putting grease on your hair, the smell will go away

Back in the grunge era of the early 90's, it was considered the thing to not wash your hair and have it greasy.

You were probably young when the whole grunge/alternative scene came out, but the point was to not support the whole idea of looking hot, perfect or fancy for everybody. It said go with the flow and don't worry too much about how you look. The look was flannel shirts, doc martens, loose baggy clothes, used clothes from thrift stores, little to no makeup, etc.
The point of not washing your hair just showed that you didn't give a $hit, lol.
Kurt Cobain might have been smelly and dirty, but he sure pulled off the grunge look pretty well.

I did go through "darker" phases too, but I wouldn't classify myself as goth. I'm old-school where I think goth is more than just wearing black. Goth is a state of mind, and a real gothic is WAY more than just wearing black.

Many tend to put on too much, especially for formal occasions. Others don't put anything on, because they don't like the products. Most I know generally put on a reasonable amount.
Thankfully I've never been told I smell bad or anything, rather the opposite actually, I've had compliments that I smell good (always found that pretty weird, I don't think it matters much though).

I've got loads of asian (indian, bengali) friends there is actually a reason, they tell me they have to especially on their clothes coz of the strong indian cooking (curry) that gets in their clothes constantly.

What happens if there is no Indian cooking daily in your house?

My friend made fun of me on how we don't eat Indian food everyday.

I'm a low-calorie diet now, so I don't know if I want to eat Indian food daily.

Knowing the elders, they make you eat a lot.

Am I missing something here? the only time people's clothes get the smell and stuff is when they go to bars or in a kitchen at a restaurant or something (i.e. a place where the smell is extremely strong). I've never had the problem at anyones house though

^ its usually something with a strong odor when its able to get onto and linger on your clothing - def not everything otherwise i'd come in smelling like mom's cooking everyday.
went to my sis-in-laws house and her husband was making shark!

i had to promptly get most everything i was wearing dry cleaned!
but honestly i've never heard of greasy hair smell...isn't it more of a look?

Only certain dishes make your clothes stink. I remember I used to make sure my bedroom door was shut when my mom cooked with certain spices or with okra/some other veggies. Incense(that type Indian families use in their homes has a distinct smell) also sticks to your clothes. I dunno if it's just me but just about everyone's house has a distinct smell.

lol, you did wash it after a little time right?

It could be related to the type of oil used. My sister in law also puts some kind of oil in her hair, but I've never been able to smell anything. On the other hand, my gran uses some other oil that does smell.
Personally, I've never put oil in my hair, so I can't really give an example myself.

I'm betting it's alma, it had that distinct funky smell. Coconut oil has a distinictive smell too but it's somewhat pleasant if the smell isn't heavy. I dunno why so many people in India like oily/shiny hair. It looks like crap in the sun.
