Well this is what wiki says;

''The name Monggol has its origin in the Tungusic languages and at first it was applied to a small and still insignificant tribe in the area of the Onon River. In the 13th century it grew into an umbrella term for a large group of tribes united under the rule of Genghis Khan''.

Mongolia has no relation with Turks! When Great Khan conquered Eastern Turkistan, he decided to use Urgur language as Mongolian's language.
Mongolian are Mongolian, and Turks are Turks.

The name Mongols (Mongolian: Монгол Mongol) specifies one or several ethnic groups. A narrow definition includes the Mongols proper (self-designation Monggol), which can be roughly divided into eastern and western Mongols. In a wider sense, the Mongol peoples includes people who speak a Mongolic language but use other self-designations, such as the Kalmyks of eastern Europe.

The name Monggol has its origin in the Tungusic languages and at first it was applied to a small and still insignificant tribe in the area of the Onon River. In the 13th century it grew into an umbrella term for a large group of tribes united under the rule of Genghis Khan. beerchug.gif

If that is true then why is Mongolian classed as being a seperate language from the Uyghurs?

By the way, Turks aren't Turks. Turkic people are Turkic people, but Turks are actually a nationality of people from different ethnic ancestory that have merged into a single ethnicity tied together by an altaic language.

Most Turks (People of Turkey) are actually Armenians, Caucassians, Greeks, Thracians, Pontic Greeks, Arabs, and Kurds.

Back in mOngolia, when I was in secondary school, in history class, my teacher told this to students. NO one is sure what MOngol means.

the closest theories are:

1.0Royal or powerful rich family had conrol over this nation. That family's name was Mon.

2.) During 16th century, one mongolian student did research, looked for meaning of Mongol. She came out with MOn means affliction in some kind of ancient language. And gol means main in mongolian language.
It was really odd research, but at the end it was Mainaffliction??? confused.gif

Well I think that person is referring to what people know about mongols like calling names.And its not based on the real definition of it.
Like when Ive learned in one place when you say Mongol you are referring to someone abnormal.
But Im not saying Mongols are abnormal. No offense please Im just talking about facts here.
