How do you tell somebody they stink without hurting their feelings?

There's this cat at work and he really stink even worst now that the days are getting hotter. The smell is unbarable, we get days when he's less stinky and days when you can't go to work without a gas mask. Even through all this, no one has dared tell him of his obvious BO problem not even the supervisor. If this guy wasn't Indian I would tell him off the bat but since he is I am worried about offending him cause I'm not too sure if they're suppose to smell that way or not. I'm afraid that if I did say something I'll get slap with a discriminating code of conduct bull$hit and get my @$$ fired.

I think you can tell your boss about it, because they're supposed to expect people to maintain good hygiene to not disrupt the work environment. shrug.gif

Or, go to YouhaveBO.com. An anonymous e-mail will be sent to that person.

are you serioussss? OMG im gona have fun with this.

for the topic: thats really too bad. it sounds like a really smelly problem. pungent odors are the worst. but from what i can gather, theres little you can do when the employee is blowing the employer : / you know the employer has the employees back, in more ways than one.

I didn't want to come off as racist. I mean how the hell does he not know he stinks unless he sense of smell is off or he just wants to smell that way.

I heard that the employer can do something about smelly employee if you complain about him/her. Dress codes and looking professional do emphasize good hygiene.

I guess I'm just gonna complain to the supervisor. I can't stand this any longer.

Maybe he doesn't know what deodorant is. Is he just from India? People from other countries, even Europe, don't wear deodorant and they don't know what odor they're giving off.

its all about how they grew up and what they were taught and maybe some other external components. some people honestly dont know how badly they smell and how much it offends/effects people around them. my mom has run into people like that and honestly, she's just pulled them aside and told them pretty straight forward. she then typically introduces them to deodrant ... it seems funny..but you'd be shocked at how many people just don't know that deodrant should be a part of their daily hygiene routine.

what you should do is exactly what EY is telling you..approach your manager. tell him/her that its affecting your work space and you're entitled to a clean and pleasant atmosphere even at work. its all in the tone also...you dont want to sound snobby or anything...i'm guessing that's how my mom does it shrug.gif

HAHAHA, thanks for the advice.

I don't think I can do all that, I'd probably laugh in mid sentence. I'm just gonna complain to the supervisor.
