Hi guys I might move to San Francisco in one month. I was wondering if I should bring my car because I've heard that I don't need it. I also wanted to know what neighborhood is a good one to move into. Should I move to San Francisco itself, or in one of the outer areas like Berkeley or Daly City? Thanks

Keep in mind that the Bay has great public transportation options. From Berkeley, I can pretty much take the BART to San Francisco and then take the bus elsewhere. Considering the cost of housing in San Fran, I'd opt for living in the outskirts.

If you're living by yourself, don't bother moving into the city... Unless you want those cheap cramp apartments in Chinatown...
SF has the MUNI bus line, and they've officially open the new "T THIRD" light rail along Third Street, that takes you from around Geneva to Market (or around there) ... But there are buses going all over the place...

if your going live Daly city (fog town) bring your car and jackets. berkeley you could opt to bring your car but you could do with out. the gas prices here are very high so consider that too. oh if your car modded then don't bother bring it it'll be gone within a week the least.

Don't listen to these people, living in the city rocks. If you can afford it, move some where east of Divisadero street and north of the 280 freeway and you will have a great time. SF has great bars, restaurants, sights, ect, it's best if you can experience it living in the city instead of just commuting into the city on the weekends... Don't be a part of the B&P crowd (bridge and pennisula)

What part of 280 north are you talking about?
280 north near sbc part are dangerous as hell!
If you want to live in the city, try Russian Hill, rent is crazy though, but nice and safe.
Or Daly City or SUnset, 10mins from SF.

Living in the city sucks if you're used to living in a small town. I remember my first time in San Francisco, i thought it was a jungle over there. Graffiti everywhere, bums sleeping in the gutters/parks, overly gay people, and crazy looking "artistic" people roaming the streets. I've gotten used to it now though.

avoid west oakland, hunter's point, 3rd street, and 24th & mission.
also avoid the tenderloin. anywhere else is fine. san fran is beautiful but they do have a massive homeless problem, especially on market street.
best area would be nob hill, russian hill, seacliff, and that area where coit tower is. also... avoid tourist traps like fisherman's wharf. best seafood is NOT from the warf but from pacifica, which is 20 minutes away from dowtown sf.
