Yes I can I can....I had this crazy music teacher in primary schools who made us memorize the words and pronounce them properly...i think ive said this tons of times..but lots of people..always sing the chorus wrong..for example; the 2nd part of the chorus that goes "marilah kita berseru" but everyone just sings it as "marilah kita bersatu">>>whcih actually belongs to the first part of the chorus..
anyway..here goes *clears throat*
Mari Kita Rakyat Singapura
Sama-sama menuju

^You're welcome tangawizi. Sorry I couldn't find a nicer rendition. It is quite a nice easy-going traditional song. To be honest I didn't bother watchiing the clip right till the end until prompted by what you said.

If i remember correctly, the kids were part of a commercial local group singing Chinese songs for the kiddies. I guess the tudung were a marketing strategy to break through to the Malay market. Certainly not a government-backed integrationist ploy lah.

Furan, you picked a very interesting and fun topic to talk about! I've always sort of wondered the same thing myself.
In relation to this topic, here's this ongoing debate and speculation (among my elders) that future generations of Malays in Singapore will eventually lose their ability to speak the mother tongue because of their constant usage of English in daily life (work, school, etc), hence I question the likelihood of this ever happening. To me it seems a bit unthinkable.
Malay Singaporeans, any comments?

I disagree. Its a cosmopolitan city state. Currently there are 50% foreigners and 50% local. There are so many languages spoken here. Sooner or later, you will find people with multi-language skill. Even I myself a Malaysian living in SG for the past 11 years is learning Japanese and strong intention to learn other languages as well. 15% of my neighbours are filipino and I have bunch of friends coming from India, China, Bangladesh, Aussie, English, Americans, etc
The language will not be lost. No malaccan is a full breed paria malaysian....j/k

There you go...another authentication by a Singaporean. I dunno whether I mention this before, we speak singlish while in Singapore....but we try to speak good english with friends from abroad but we instill the singlish words to cultivate our fellow friends into the singlish culture which is always a breaking of ice things which made many of our friends amused by it....and they in turn tries to replicate it to blend in
While abroad....well we try as much lor...to speak like them...do what the romans do sort
