I think it's a great idea. There should be a Chinese foreign legion, similiar to the French one.

Because many overseas Chinese vary in their ability to communicate in Chinese, this foreign legion would use english as part of its command structure. It would officially be under the command of the CCP in Bejing but would be a somewhat independent unit from the rest of the Chinese armed forces.

Most of the volunteers would probably be overseas Chinese who would like to show their patriotism and loyalty to the motherland. However, some non-Chinese may join as well for a variety of reasons. No matter what your nationality, there will be an espirit de corps, united to serve the motherland with honor.

This kind of unit would have significant advantages as its soldiers all speak fluent english and even the languages of their adoptive countries. For example, Chinese-French would speak French in addition to english. Making it an international military force for the Chinese diaspora is very large and volunteers would come from all over the world. This unit would be ready to deploy overseas in short notice. Whether rescuing Chinese businessmen in dangerous regions of Africa or doing peacekeeping operations in volatile regions of the world.

Chinese Legionnaires are eligible to receive Chinese citizenship and given free plane rides to China for life in exchange for their valiant service.

I think this kind of military force will be more and more necessary in the future as China's power and influence in the world grows. Also, this kind of force will give opportunity for ALL Chinese around the world a feeling of solidarity. No matter if you're a Chinese-Canadian, a Chinese-British, a Chinese-Indonesian, Chinese-Malaysian, we are all united and spill our blood for it.

I do think it's a more-than-great idea, but on the other-hand I think the chance of that happening as of now is little to none

anti-chinese sentiment is prevalent in not only the U.S.;U.K.; Japan, but also within China's neighboring Asian countries as well as the nation whose China's military force is a b!tch to, Russia.

Also, the U.S. is not the only country with stark suspicion about China's secretive military spending. The U.K.; Australia (White Nation located close to China) and even some top-notch Russians are concerned about that too.

BTW, I love the new Wehrmacht Helmet for your user-logo.

Judging from your posts, you don't seem like a National Socialist, but then again I've never seen you in person.

How much should China pay to the legion?

French Foreign Legion was created by France because Napoleon's wars had bled France white of able men. So the idea was to create a force consisting of foreigners to fight for France. The people who joind up were adventurists, criminals, or people who simply wished to start a new life. You were given a new identity and when your service was up, you could become a citizen of France and asssume a new identity.

Because this force consisted of men from all different cultures and backgrounds, the only way to unite them all and make them into an efficient fighting force was to establish an "espirit de corps." Brutal training methods and forcing the men to depend upon one another for survival created a strong bond between the men. French Legionnaires were elite in France's armed forces. They participated in every war France has been in and did the most dangerous and demanding tasks.

Surrender is not an option for French Legionnaires. Because these soldiers are not French citizens, they do not belong to any country and so if captured, they are at the total whim of the enemy. Therefore, French Legionnaires often fought to the death or until the situation was truly hopeless.

I think there is a need for a Chinese foreign legion because there are many overseas Chinese from a variety of different countries and cultures. Raising a force full of these people would create an international force, capable of dealing with any situation anywhere in the world.

I believe that many overseas Chinese do not feel loyalty to their adoptive country and very much wish to prove their loyalty to China and the Chinese people.

I think that after 4 years of service with the Chinese Foreign Legion, the Chinese government should award its members free education on Chinese language and culture to re-integrate these overseas Chinese.

Why would you want to fight for anyone who's not paying you?!? What's in it for you??

Like the French foreign legion who mainly attracted adventurists, people with a bad past or people who simply want to start over, this Chinese foreign legion will attract the same types. Chinese who are simply disaffected with life in the west or who crave adventure or who simply wish to start over are encouraged to join.

what about making a Asian American Legion?

with Chinese Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Filipino Americans, Hmong Americans, Thai Americans, etc?

similiar to WWI - WWII when they had all black soldiers in one battalion

or when they had the all Japanese American fighting units during WWII ?

I would feel more comfortable if I was in an all asian fighting force

Why would I want to fight for the US? They are China's enemy. The whole point is to create a foreign legion loyal to China.

The PLA are in the process of cutting down the number of soldiers. They do not need more soldiers to spend money on.

its important to get experience with the soldiers you have first, plus any expansion looks hostile.

China has no shortage of men and I don't think China would favor this idea of yours; just doesn't sit well with China foreign or internal policy.

Can you imagine that Deng call on “CFL” for the Tiananmen incidences? Or to save the millions in Indonesia? This is beyond me.

If in the remote future, on a remote chance, China is to be an expanding empire like America now, and China's leader is as crazy as Bush and overextend China's army, then, there might be a Chinese foreign legion.

Actually I think US is having a foreign legion now, the US military allows non-citizens to join and grants them citizenship after their service. It's not a written policy but it's the practice already.
