By that i mean those Hmongs who are descendants of Families from Laos, that pretty much includes Hmong from Thailand, AMerica, France, Autralia, Canada, you name it.

This does not include Hmong from China, I don't know much on them.

Alright, If u ever notice, many hmong folks and especially the old folks exaggerate or sarcastically the bad things in life. Is it part of the unconcicious mind of Lao Hmong descendants. I see it as a weak train of thought, but that is only me. Nevertheless, it is there and evident.

For example: If your Hmong and I'm pretty sure whoever is reading is. OUr parents grandparents often bad mouth on the hard work in Laos.
or if they're in pain, they'll complain of it alot> be like "Oh it hurts so bad.....you have no idea of the pain......"
Or relatives from Laos complain of how poor they are, how there is little to eat.

Yea yea, they probably had good reasons to moan..............but when I view other cultures, they don't do it so often, don't get me wrong, i'm not saying they're better than us.

For example: Farmers in America...........after a good day of hard work in the fields..........they be like...."Hell, we got some good work done aint it."
<<<<<<<<<<<<Americans farmers love to farm.....>>>>>>>>>>>>>>UFC legend Matt Hugh is a farmer as well as a fighter.>he could of drop farming for fighting, but he farms because he likes the hard work.

Another Ex: I've seen kids in Darfur and they're running and hiding, when interview on tape...they were asked how come they don't cry or complain of the hard life......they simply replied........."There is no room to cry or be soft, we can't show weakness....we are at war" or something to that effect

This is my opinion only on the Hmong weak uncious part of the mind:

I believe that we Hmongs have that unconcious state that are always looking to fill that hunger..always worry about survival...and looking for a savior....looking for an easy way out...

In Hmong Movies: they usually have the orphane underdog and grows up to get the chick, and in that movie there's sometimes that tragic crap going on......they like the capture the hunger.....the homelessness, the b!tchy uncle/aunt...

Maybe it's just because this $hit sells...

Don't get me wrong not all Hmongs are like this.....my father is deffenantly not....and a prime example of the Hmong virtue.

Tell me what u guys think

Man your fvcked up foo...........you come in here talking smack about hmong this hmong that, then all of a sudden you come out of the blue and say yeah my dad doesnt do what i just said and he's a virture, it makes this dumb @$$ post sound like an @$$.....

Farmers in america these day dont even do $hit these days anymore they mostly higher illegal immigrant to handle the hard labor........and duh they going to to say, "Hell, we got some good work done aint it." cuz they know by the end of the day they are going to make some profit............you see the hmong from laos, after a hard day of work they go home and eat whateva knowing that what they grow wont bring in any profit but an income that will allow them to survive on.

Man our folks are parnoid from what they've seen and done......thats probably whats lead to their pains so dont come in here criticizing the hmong folks because they've been through a lot.........

Optimism is arrogance and over confidence... So even if things are not even bad, folks will pretend that it is. What's wrong with pessimism? It may be view as a weak minded thing by the west but the east does not think like that. It's not just hmong people that think like that the whole traditional asian race does.

I don't think they dwell on the bad stuff. I mean, certainly, they had things to complain about, but I also hear a lot of good things like, the bountifulness of fruits, the carefree life without bills, etc. I think they just emphasize the bad stuff when they talk to us younger generation so that we will work harder because we have the resources to live well. I do feel like they emphasize it to make us realize that we got it good. Sure, we complain about the lack of things we have, but like the elders say said, we don't know poverty even if we grew up on food stamps and welfare because it could always be worse. Real poverty is losing your entire family, losing your childhood and starving at the same time, etc. I think they just really want us to put things in perspective.

My dad is a very pessimisstic guy who worries a lot and never seems satisfied and happy.

But this is why [some] Hmong people act like this:

It's not an honest expression. It's they're form of modesty and motivation to succeed in life. The elders [rarely] show any arrogance or how proud they are of whatever. The wise consider it "shallow and big-headed". You must never seem like you're satisfied.

Another reason:

There remains that scar upon all elders and their ancestors of the past, compiled of many occurences and events, all overlapping, stretching from as far as time can carry.

Totally agrees... modesty is an important character a person can have. Even a person claims his/her abilities are inadequate, we outta have faith in them for every person has great potential. We can never under estimate or over look a person.

You're saying that because you've only experienced the good side of life. $hit ain't all peachy, the past ain't all candy. it's because we live in the fu-king u.s.a where life is better. there is less pain, more opportunities to increase health, wealth and social status. c'mon dog, the older generation complain because life was hard. and i can't believe you even quoted matt hughes, WTF? try hiking several miles to farm on some abrupt plane, would you be so optimistic?

If Matt Hughes wasn't a rich UFC fighter he'd be looking for a better life. embarassedlaugh.gif

You know our parents/elders would love to return to their old way of life in Laos with alot of money, nice house and all, just like Matt Hughes. embarassedlaugh.gif

Maybe if you had formed your thoughts better I would be able to comprehend what your actual point is..

lots of people are pessimistic, not just the Hmong people.

There ain't nothing wrong with being pessimistic. You expect the worst and hope for the best. That way you don't set yourself up for a disappointment and at the same time your fully aware of what can happen in any situation.
