Patna: Convicted of rape and murder at the age of 12, Mantun Kumar was sentenced to five years imprisonment followed by six months' service at a temple by a court in the Begusarai district of Bihar.
And Kumar considers himself to be very lucky to serve the sentence, as it is a sentence to ‘serve God’.
Says Kumar,” I consider myself lucky as I am in the presence of God.”
Kumar in fact feels so indebted to the legal system that he now wants to help run the rule of law.
“In future I would like to do a respectable work. My desire is to become a police inspector,” says Kumar.
The temple authorities as well as worshippers also support the court verdict.
“The worst of human beings get reformed when they come before God. The court has made the right decision,” says manager, Mahavir Temple, Patna, Nagendra Ojha.
“I think the court's decision is right. He should be given a chance to reform himself,” adds a devotee, Rupa Sinha.
The unconventional sentence has no doubt given a new lease of life to Kumar. And with people supporting the court verdict, there is perhaps hope for many others like him as well.

what are your thoughts on this?
keep in mind:
he was 12 when the crimes were done.
but how can a 12 year old commit such horrible acts? could he be mentally ill so they have let him go lightly?
this is crazy
