hey folks,

i'm indo-guyanese and there is a certain way we massage babies. for the life of me i cannot recall what we call this massage technique. i know the word is either hindi or urdu in origin. this is how it goes:

-the baby is rubbed down with coconut oil
-the torso is rubbed but the most significant part of the massage is when the baby's limbs are massaged
-the child's opposite arm and leg are gently pulled together over it's torso (the baby's right plalm would touch the bottom of it's left foot)

my grandmother used to do this massaged with babies all the time, but she passed away and my mother and i cannot remember the name she used to call it. my mother used to massage us that way too, but i guess it's been so long she has forgotten the name of it too.

maybe you guys can help me.

thanks
VAMAN
Welcome to this forum. beerchug.gif I have no idea from which part of India your ancestors came from, in Hindi we call it 'Malish' or more appropriately 'Tel Malish'. Tel = Oil, Malish = Massage. I hope it could be of some help.

How is life there in Guyana ? Do you have any idea from which part of India your ancestors belong to ? Just curious.
