you can always buy books or borrow books or watch video lessons. But it will take awhile and be harder doing in on your own.

But from hearing about other people's experience. Such as my cousin who got fluent so damn fast. The fastest way to learn it and learn it fluently is to know someone who can speak japanese. Like japanese friend. My cousin had a japanese girlfriend and since they were always together he started learning the language. And he caught up really really really fast. Cuz its just one-on-one 24/7 and doesnt need classes and he said it was fun. He ended up marrying her lol. But they divorced later cuz her wife found someone new :/ and his son died. He just had the worst moments in his life. Sorry for going offtopic!!! But yeah, my cousin told me theres nothing quicker learning a language actually conversating with someone whos native to it rather than trying to learn it in a class or learn it from a textbook. Cuz you dont really have that real conversational experience and talking to someone that you get know is much much more efficient. If you learn from classes or textbook it might be hard to actually go out and communicate without the real experience. But if you have someone to talk to with the addition of taking classes AND reading books AND even watching videos!!! Its gonna speed up things even more. But you really gotta be committed to it.

Thats my take on it. But i think you need someone thats fun to talk to. You gotta have a good time. I know i did, well i took classes but it was fun cuz i was close with my japanese teacher and she was pretty young too.

Book a flight to Japan and live there. That will, literally, force you to learn the language in quite a hurry.

This isn't true actually. You could live in Tokyo your whole life and never learn Japanese if you wanted (English is all over the place).

English words placed on various signs and panels doesn't mean that English is present "all over the place".

Yes it does. I didn't say all Japanese can speak English, but you can get by easily without learning Japanese (except maybe the bare essentials). Fact.
