What are some common house pests in Southern California...Irvine? When I went to my uncle's house in Yorba Linda (last spring vacation), my cousin said that trantulas sometimes come into the house, and in their garage, I saw a gekco (sp?).
I don't mind the gekco b/c it's so cute, but I'd FREAK out if I saw a trantula!! eek.gif
I hate HATE bugs, and want to be prepared for the new species of bugs/pests of Southern California. So can you guys list some house pest that you get in your house? Do you guys get scorpions and trantulas?? Anything (including some pests in the outside environment) that bites and are dangerous that I should be aware of? And what are the chance that I get attacked by a mountain lion in Irvine (this may be a silly question, but my cousin in Yorba Linda said that someone in her neighborhood got attacked by a Mt. Lion while biking)?

i'm further up north but i'm pretty sure irvine doesnt have trantulas or mt lions. its a city, the worst thing is probably a cockroach. well atleast they're not something you see very often if you do.

my friend lives in the hills(woodland hills) and have mountain lions/coyotes. But yeah if you dont live near any mountains, you wont really have to worry.

ants and termites. there's might be rats around too. Lizards are quite commonly seen if you have a garden in your yard.

i live in LA. its usually like cockroaches and flies. Cockroaches are pretty fu-kn ugly. Theyre uglier the bigger they are. The really really huge ones ive seen in my house just happened to have red legs which was just disgusting and you can hear their legs brushing and tapping on the floor. and some cockroaches fly but dont last long in the air. jesus, they are so fugly. they always try to get in my room for some reason, last time i was trying to sleep and a cockroach fell on my face. I dont know where the hell it came from. At night, thats when all the cockroaches roam around the streets and they try to sneak in your house.

Also there are rats at times.

In the backyard, sometimes theres lizards. Also there are possums too. I was surprised to see a raccoon once. Ive never seen one in real life. I wanted to hug it but it ran away.

In the summer ants tend to invade your house. Like it can get crazy.

ive never seen a trantula in my life in LA. That would be worst than cockroaches. but ive seen plenty of daddy long legs.

Not only do bugs try to get into your house, but black people too. lol im just playin. But yeah, keep your doors and windows locked. Ive heard funny stories, but kinda sucked.

ewwww roaches...I would need therapy if a roach fell on my face embarassedlaugh.gif I have to say that I've been lucky enough to have never seen one in real life. Mainly b/c I lived in Northern NY, middle of nowhere with tons of snow (I think roaches reside in the cities...), and my mom keeps the house sparkling clean (she's a neat-freak). One weird thing I've observed here is that there are no squirrels or chipmunks. In upstate NY, they're everywhere! There was a chipmunks that lived under our house, and whenever we planted flowers, the little bastard would dig up the bulb and chew it up madgo.gif We didn't find a solution for this chipmunk problem...we couldn't kill him...he was too cute...but still evil! The real scary ones were the squirrels...they're sooooooo~ many of them...like some sort of a squirrel army. Most of them in my neighborhood and campus weren't scared of humans, and some liked to follow people for food or try to attack people for no reason. I raised rabbits last spring in my gated back porch (they weren't in cages, but just let free in the backyard), and those damn squirrels challenge my bunnies everyday for their food LOL! I found out bunnies aren't as docile as they look!
Anyway, I haven't seen a single squirrel since I got here...I don't miss those little pests, but I do miss NY's beautiful blue jays...
