I personally banned YouTube myself…mean…I don’t visit YouTube just like it has been blocked in Thailand even I can … after I’ve gone mad with those free-speech…blah..blah..blah and realized it was such a waste of time searching on YouTube.

But today, I had not much to do, so I searched “Thai King” in YouTube to see how it’s going? Very much cool-down. I think YouTube took out all those offensive VDO. I’m not sure. Is YouTube still blocked in Thailand? If yes, I want to share something nice to you all. One of the offensive VDO posters apologized to people and king of Thailand ...

“My apology to the people and king of Thailand” from “mdab”

“When the controversy over YouTube being banned in Thailand first began, I didn't really know what to think. One thing did come to mind, however; that something just wasn't right. I really had no knowledge of the Thai culture and no idea how important the Thai King truly is to his people.

In fact, all I had to base my reaction to the situation on was my strongly American view that freedom of Speech is one of the most sacred rights a people can have. I personally live by this principle, but I am more than aware that many peoples and nations do not. While I may not agree with it, I recognize it is my duty as a sane and honorable human being to respect these cultural differences.

When I originally made my video, I was trying to approach the issue from what I thought was a fairly light angle - poking fun at the Thai king from an innocent point of view and making a simple, political point. I even included other world leaders in an attempt to show that I had no particular dislike of the Thai King. All along, my intent was purely political in nature - to show that Thailand has some laws that simply do not fit in our modern, freedom loving world - and nothing more.

I never intended to hurt the Thai people. I never intended to personally insult the Thai King. To be entirely honest, I was really quite ignorant as to the history and traditions behind the Thai laws that protect the image of the King. I knew Thailand had a very different culture from the United States - that they had very different values and traditions - but I never realized how important the King was within the Thai culture.

In the days and weeks since I posted my videos, I've grown to realize that my comments and actions could easily be taken in the wrong light - that I have something against the Thai King or even the Thai People. I want to make it entirely clear that this is not true, nor was it ever, and that it was never my intent. Unfortunately, my video got a bit out of hand and really upset a lot of people. I am sorry and I never meant for this to happen. I never meant to offend anyone, to upset anyone, or even create much of a reaction -- I simply wanted to help get a message out. I stand by my message, but I guess I went a little overboard. For that I am sorry.

With this in mind, I'd like to offer my sincerest apologies to all the people of Thailand, to all those of Thai Ancestry, and to all those who love and cherish Thailand and her people. Most of all, I'd like to offer my apologies to His Majesty, the King of Thailand, for defacing his picture and polluting his image.

I am deeply sorry to all whom I may have hurt and I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.

Thank you.”

it's easy to make excuse...

Thai people always forgive one who feel guilty.
If he feel really sorry and promise not to do that again. It's OK for me, I forgive him.

lol I don't think I care much for my president so why do people care so much for their King ? ^_^

There's tons of videos making fun of President Bush and pictures everywhere about him I don't think it should be much of a big problem... but yeah that's the power of Freedom of Speech we can say what we want without being thrown in jail just for talking back lmfao.

Don't compare our feeling toward the king with your feeling toward your president. Compare with your feeling toward your parents if you love them. Your presidents can compare with our priministers because they are in the same group ... politicians. The king is not politician.

I never recieved any benefits directly from the king, but this feeling happened when I saw him working for Thai especially the poor ones.

Anyway, it's not easy to understand and I understand you for that. I start to let it go if people still don't understand.

Thailand to lift ban on YouTube

The Information and Communication Technology Ministry plans to ask the cabinet to waive a decree issued by the Council for National Security, earlier known as the Council for Democratic Reform, which has prohibited political websites, said ICT minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom.

The junta's decree, known as Order No. 5, which has banned political websites, will be lifted by the Surayud cabinet this week in order to make the people feel better now that the political situation has improved and a general election is to be held, he said.

The ICT minister who claimed to have banned only about 200 websites, 90 per cent of which featured pornography said that Thai-based internet users will again be allowed to access www.youtube.com, the popular video-sharing website, in particular, after it had been blocked for several months.

Google, the US-based parent corporation of YouTube, had offered to see to it that any lese majeste content will be kept off that website, he added.

The ministry in early April began blocking the popular video-sharing website after it showed a sequence of video clips considered insulting to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. (TNA)
