Cambodia and Vietnam celebrated the 40 year anniversary of diplomatic relations at a ceremony here on Saturday, while both countries determined to have more cooperation and help each other for development, a joint statement said.

Cambodia and Vietnam determined to cooperate to work harder than before and maintain their relationship as good forever because they are neighbors which used to help each other, the statement said.

It added that the diplomatic relations have made the two countries help each other in liberating from new and old colonies and made they have independence, national unity, peace and development subsequently.

The ceremony was attended by about 50 senior governmental officials from both countries, including Cambodian senior minister Men Sam On.

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967.

I kinda know what you mean (and feel). By nature, we always want to stay away from anything we hate or dislike.

But I believe, in the longrun, it's more to our advantage to have friends than enemies. That way we'll know who's friend, and who's enemy. On top of that, we can easily defeat the enemy if we know more about them.

i know china is gulity of supporting PouPat regime. Mao likes revolution all the way, so to speak. My question is the following?

oh, yeah. of course, they just like how japanese came into China. to perform a 'peace keeping mission', and to stop the terrorism in Nanjing. but unfortunatitly, they found 300,0000 terrorists there. Vietnam is just a so freaking peaceful nation in SEA. lol.
seriously, I doubt any combodian you asked here will say that's a 'peace keeping mission'.

While his statement is true, it's not entirely correct. Yes, Vietnam did stopped the Khmer Rouge genocide. And we are greatful for that. But let's not forget that Vietnam (along with China) was also a huge contributing factor to the build-up and the increasing power of the Khmer Rouge armies.

Just like others has said, there were others reasons for Vietnam to come into Cambodia in 1978. "Peace keeping mission", no. In fact, Cambodia was splitted into various factions: the Vietnamese-installed regime, the Khmer Rouge, the Sihanouk controlled faction, and the Son Sann controlled faction. Of course, the Vietnamese-installed regime had control of most of the country, while the other three were launching attacks from their bases in the areas near the Thai border. So I guess you can say that Vietnam had caused the civil war in Cambodia that lasted until the UN-sponsored general election in 1993.
MrShao
thanks to all of you.

chinamen don't know too much about cambodia. too bad. until last night, i didn't even know HM Sihanouk had left china. I'm very please to see (well last night) His Majesty comes to a good Hollywood-style ending. My best wish to HM, his royal family, and to the people of this wonderful land.

hey, don't laugh at me. i can't wait to tell this old news to my friends. hey, don't laugh at us. not everyone is news savvy.

Regardless the 1978 war, Vietnam had been taken too much land from Cambodia thru the history. Definitely they are not that peaceful person as they called themselves.
