Yeah, it seems like I'm not the only one to think Riyo Mori has the luck...
Kurara Chibana practically paved the road for Riyo Mori. If their turns are reversed, Kurara Chibana might definitely win this year. But once again, it's the LUCK factor.
More information about Kurara Chibana that I know from my lousy Japanese translation. (Source:
Kurara Chibana's recording transcript at Japanese radio station J-WAVE.)
When Kurara Chibana was 18, she failed her University Entrance exams. And she was depressed and sad about it. She had two options. That is to go overseas (to study or travel)(her parents are bankers) OR be jobless and self-study for a year and re-take the University Entrance exams. She was unsure of what to do and her teacher wrote a letter to her citing the following words as a form of encouragement:
THE SERENITY PRAYER
O God, give us
serenity to accept what cannot be changed,
courage to change what should be changed,
and wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.Source:
Taken from Kurara Chibana's Blog.In the end she chose to re-take the exams and she passed successfully and got into Sophia University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Philosophy. Since then, this SERENITY PRAYER has been her favourite phrase, and a source of support.
From here, I personally could see Kurara Chibana has great determination in whatever she does, and even though she may have suffered some obstacles and failures along the way, she is still strong and go forward with her dreams and goals. So even if Kurara Chibana didn't win the Miss Universe title last year, I'm pretty sure she's still a strong-minded woman who is willing to grit her teeth and take on whatever challenges in her stride.
I just hope that she will have greater LUCK in whatever she does in the future. Because a little luck can still possibly make a bigger difference than what strong determination can do. So God, I pray you can grant her more luck now and in the future.
Kurara Chibana @ J-WAVE recording session on 24th June 2007 (she does a recording on every last Sunday of the month if I am not wrong)
