Two Indonesian TV Dramas Hit Highest Rating in Malaysia:
Ratapan Anak Tiri Records Highest Rating 2.4 Millions Viewers at The Premiere Day, And Bawang Merah Bawang Putih Obtains 4 Million Viewers to Date

KL, 14-02-2007
Wahida Asrani

When Bawang Merah Bawang Putih (BMBP) recorded rating between 900 to 1 million viewers in Malaysia at the first time it was aired, the Indonesian new sinetron Ratapan Anak Tiri (RAT) seems triumphant by beating BMBP for its first airing on February 5, 2007 by successfully gathered 2.4 million viewers.

“We are very surprised looking at the rating RAT got. We believe the storyline of this drama has made a big respond.”
“If BMBP was successfully reached more-less 4 million viewers in total, we are optimistic that RAT will break the rating record. And if this happens, it will be the terrific achievement,” said Johary Saleh from TV3 Malaysia.

According to Johary, the booming of BMBP is one of the factors that attract Malaysian audiences to watch another Indonesian drama RAT. “Starting from BMBP, the people must be eager to see another one like RAT which has the same interesting story.”

RAT is a story about 2 sisters misery from the childhood-time to when they grow up with their wicked step-mother. The twists of all 33 episodes have built the curiosity of people to keep watching each episode and figuring out what happened next.

ABS-CBN reaches more territories in the global market

The Philippines
ABS-CBN reaches more territories in the global market
Boom of Philippine telenovelas in several territories.

source:
http://www.onlytelenovelas.com/Only_8/20.php

According to rating reports, the telenovelas Timeless and The Long Wait from the Philippine network ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation were top favorites in Malaysia. Basing on the information reported by AGBNMR during the first quarter of 2006, Timeless ranked No. 4 in that countrys
multi-weekly programs rating chart, scoring a 59% audience share. The same data revealed that Timeless and The Long Wait, outpaced a telenovela in the ratings game.

But it was not the only achievement of these telenovelas expanding successfully across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Indo-China and Europe. African TV stations broadcast at least one ABS-CBN Philippine telenovela a day while the other TV stations air two to three times a week, says Reena de Guzman-Garingan, International Sales and Distribution Director at ABSCBN Broadcasting Corporation. There are channels that have been broadcasting two Philippine telenovelas from Monday to Friday and another one on Saturdays and Sundays. In countries like Kenya, Cameroon and Tanzania at least two networks are currently airing ABS-CBN Philippine telenovelas, which always consist in 45-to-50-minute episodes, explains the executive.

A Philippine telenovela craze has indeed hit foreign countries, spawning websites and fan clubs, and making the Philippine cast hugely popular in the international scene. Our telenovelas are the hot items in foreign newspapers; theres the case of a TV station in Africa that delayed its launch hoping to have the Philippine telenovela stars to grace their celebration. The Philippine telenovela business in Africa is a phenomenon and has captured advertising revenues never achieved before by the networks, states de Guzman-Garingan.

Why does Africa embrace Philippine stories?
The executive assures that the African telenovela audience has readily embraced Philippine telenovelas because of the mixture of distinct facial features on the screen, ranging from Asian to Spanish, and also explains that due to the infusion of multicultural context, they have captured both female and male audiences. During the World Cup month, the time slots of The Promise, Timeless, The Long Wait and other ABS-CBNs telenovelas airing on various networks across Africa were pre-empted. As a result, the male audience was warned by their wives of having no meals on their tables for not having their favorite Philippine telenovela on air.

The companys goal is to increasingly consolidate within the global market as their programs exports rise. Besides telenovelas, they sell and distribute formats, feature films, magazine programs and clips.
Among their most required programs, there are the telenovelas The Promise, Timeless and The Long Wait.

Pangako Sayo (My Promise To You)

reviews:

[Cambodia]

***The teleserye Pangako Sa Yo was broadcasted here in Cambodia with Khmer dubbing. If you go to the market during noon, youll see all the vendors tuned in to Jericho Rosales speaking in a high-pitched Khmer voice. The teleserye was so popular that many Cambodian babies are named Angelo. Right now, Cambodian channels are broadcasting It Might Be You: with John Lloyd and Bea Lucero. I guess the new babies would now be called Lawrence.

***hi!i'm a filipino living in kenya and since 'pangko sayo' was broadcasted here, everyone's been asking me if i'm a filipino, like their favorite characters in 'pangako sayo'. Even in the capital city or nearby towns, people always make positive comments. i'm glad they brought it to kenya, it reminds me so much of home since i haven't been back for like 6 years.i'm also proud that alot of kenyans have contributed their comments to this site,it makes me feel more confident about being differnt, in terms of nationality and color here. MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!!!!!
***I have watched several soap operas for instance La mje de mvida, the bold and the beautiful,,days of our lives and many more others but I have never been moved with any of those like the promise does.It has thought me alot in life .Please send me that dvd/vcd I can't miss it.Thank you and if possible send me the email address of Angelo and Yna
***The morals of life are expressed in a simple lifestyle which most people are running away from in the soap.A christian life is not absent. The has impressed me with realisation and importance of family life-joy,happiness and a rtevelation of the character of God.It is strange these days to find most people with the idea of love at first sight which I can overcome the raging tempest toasts that comes with love.LOVE IS AS STRONG AS DEATH and i guess always starts a friendship.LOVE WILL ALWAYS OVERCOME and a lot more can be said. The other impressive thing about the soap is that it is NOT FICTITUOS as it closely brings about the TRUE realities of life.IN MY COMMUNITY AT UNZA CAMPUS the students have greatly been made happy and are always sparing a moment to see the soap.CHITALU

***Helloh!! My name's Amanda and I just looooooooove watching Pangako Sa Yo. I discovered it just two weeks ago (yes, I am slow) thanks to the monsoon rains always disrupting my satellite TV forcing me to watch national TV instead. I rush home from school every day just to watch it! Sadly, I have to miss Fridays episodes.
Anyways, I think it's a really good drama series. I think I enjoy it better than all the Hong Kong drama series I have watched!! What's better is there are 480 episodes and each lasts 1 hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I missed like so many episodes, I am wondering if I can get the VCD or something to catch up..... ahhh, I'm so motivated to learn Tagalog just as much as I have always wanted to learn Thai. Hope to visit the Philipines one day!! Gaaaaaaah!!
Kristine is really pretty and Jericho is handsome.. anyone got newsssss on them?? Thankss!
Amanda Rya.
***I just delete my first blog on pangako sayo. i got 20 comments in total. i didn't know my blog somehow hurt some ppl. Sorry people, because this is my blog, i just wrote what i think..Sorry again. For that, i delete it forever. hehe. OH, Result..result...BBB please.........Just watch lord of the ring today! the story is smashing! I love it since the first one come out. The ending was so SWWWWWEEEETT! Luckily, the producer didn't set a partner for Orlando! Otherwise, i'll be disappointed! K then!
I didnt expect to get a lot of reply for my bog on Pangako sayo. You people really love it! Yeah. All of the actors and actresses are fabulous and talented! Credit to the producer! I watched the show from TV2. After its over, me n lot of frenz expects the next series will be one from Philippines as well. Too bad, its not! Its Malaysian drama. Not that I dun like Malaysian drama, I do like it. However, I really really have it enough! I believe those from Singapore, Malaysia or Brunei understand me. Oh pulezz, another Philippines series. By the way, pangako sayo is better than the previous one. I dun remember the title, but the heroins name is via I think. While the hero is gabriell n there is one evil lady in the story. The story is quite interesting as well but I still like pangako sayo better. Pangako sayo is the best according to one of u. I dunno cuz so far I only watched 2. How about others series? Is it as fun as pangako sayo? However, I like series form other countries as well. From Japan, Korea, hongkong n of course Mexico. Now I am still;PAngako sayo final
Hai, its quite a long time jua i didnt blog. Oh. tv2 will airing the final episode of pangako sayo this monday. OH god, what am i going to do in the afternoon everyday when it is over? i spent a lot of time watching tv series in the afternoon, after school. Now, all my favourites series gone one by one. next is pangako sayo, jus before was catalina n sebastian. oh well, i hope more fun series coming soon. oh yes, i am in my holiday til january. how do i feel? happy ofcourse. after struggling for sometime. Hari raya almost over as well, but can see people do this open house still. Last nite was a nightmare, me n my fren went out to get some stuff. it was raining..heavily! The road to my house was full of water, flood. We were so panic that i even cry. heheh. my fren suggested juz drive through the water. hey, i said cannot. what if the car stuck in the middle of..ocean look a like i say. I saw a lot of cars stop aside or turn back, while few of them drove away, for big car it's ok.Luckily, my fren was brave enough to drive through the water n the car was ok. i was wrong. Sometime, we do mistake, eventogh we think we are 100% rite. At the end, we are not. Message of the day, do litsen to others eventough y think u are right! esp ur frenz!

to malaysian friends, sorry for sort-of invading your forum with my tagalog posts. peace also

Salamat.

***WALA SANANG CRAB MENTALITY
sana wag n lang tayo maging CRAB MENTALITY...

***instaead of bashing GMA for having soaps also in other asian countries., wag na lang tayo magsalita ng againts dun..dahil gawang pilipino din yun..at tayo lahat dito pilipino...

***dapat pa nga maging proud tayo ksi export na soaps natin....

***Oo nga. I am a Kapuso pero I am glad that we are able to market our soap operas to other countries, whether it is made by GMA or ABS.

***Kapuso ka man o Kapamilya, Pinoy ka pa rin.

Filipino soap opera on Mexican TV

A famous Filipino soap opera (teleserye) will soon make its debut on Mexican primetime television. Mexicos Televisa has bought the rights to air GMA 7s Mga Mata Ni Anghelita.

Televisa executives said they bought the 70 episodes of Mga Mata Ni Anghelita because of one important factor - its religious theme. Historically, there are major similarities between the Philippines and Mexico because they were two of the first countries to be colonized by Spain in the 16th century, that is why religious practices and traditions are very similar.

Mga Mata Ni Anghelita began its telecast in GMA-7 primetime block last July 2007 as part of the Kapuso networks 57th anniversary offering.

It starred Krystal Reyes in the title role together with Sheryl Cruz, Carmina Villarroel, Ms. Celia Rodriguez , Tonton Gutierrez, Paolo Contis, Isabel Oli, and Marvin Agustin as the Guardian Angel Gabriel. The soap opera also had the special participation of Lucy Torres-Gomez as the Virgin Mary. This was from the direction of Khryss Adalia and Gil Tejada.

Gulong Ng Palad (Wheel Of Life)

Reviews:

i have been asked many times by my samoan workmates if i am a filipino. the reason behind it? they want to know where they can buy dvds of gulong ng palad and sa piling mo.

i was a bit surprised because the gulong ng palad that i know was played by ronald corveau, who was my father's customer in our family business during the late 70's and for which i even have his autograph (yay!), and marianne dela riva. i didn't know that there is this new series being played by kristine hermosa and another new guy, tj trinidad. i was told that these two movies are really making waves in samoa. apparently, it all started in fiji where a fijian watched it and shared the dvds with a samoan friend and this samoan was able to get an copy and sent it to his relatives in samoa and from then on, those dvds were handed down from one household to another.

this afternoon, while taking my afternoon tea, another workmate asked me again if i am filipino. she said that GNP is being shown on tv in samoa every night and when it's time for GNP, every one just literally stops what they're doing. she said the streets are deserted and every one wouldn't want to miss a scene.

out of curiosity, i tried to google this GNP and i found this and this! how is that? there's even one famous samoan singer, whose latest album was inspired by the movie sa piling mo. and look at those bebo pages they created? bebo is like friendster, or myspace or facebook but bebo is most popular here in nz and samoa.

have a look at those bebo pages! you'll get amused reading their comments!

some comments i saw in bebo:

***we like the film cos it realated to our own
custom as well. but beside that the actors/actress are really touching we hope to hear more about your true love story again.

from all usp staff Kiribati Campus

***Ive only just seen the series and Im impressed with the acting. Filipimo people are natural performers. The series is starting to make waves in Fiji and almost everyone you talk has heard about GnP. The plot is a bit heavy and dramatic, but its good to see an alternative to the American soapies we are flooded with in Fiji. A lot of people will relate the the themes on Gnp and I hope we will start our very own series soon.

***This GNP series is quite good. I wonder if the drama soapies continioues or if episode 8 is the final........this sort of series should be screened on Fiji TV instead of shortland street, which is pathetic........the filipimo people are natural actors and the story has really touched so many people i know

***I heard that that the Gulong series goes up to 16. Have not seen prove but I agree Naomi that it is a breath of fresh air compared to the bird droppings from New Zealand called Shortland Street. I agree that Fiji should have its own local soap with relevant topics as portrayed by Gulong. The only that thing that bothered me a bit was the crying. There is so much crying it reminds me of the Indian movies. Thank god there is no dancing as in the Bollywood style movies! Anyway the rip-off of the theme music aside, Ill watch any soapie like Gulong anytime. Can someone organise for Luisa and Cardeeng to come to Fiji? They are big stars right now in Fiji that they even have competitions on radio almost everyday about the series. Can you believe how popular this series is in Fiji? Its incredible people. Ive never experienced anything like it since the introduction of sevens rugby to Fiji!

***diz is so coolll, diz iz da best love story or movie dat i ever seen. i never seen it b4, but wen i watched it i feel da same feelin s Luisa, bcoz diz gonna happen in da ril world, also in my country SAMOA.

i hate Mimi n her part in da movie but i know dat diz is da best actress in da drama coz if deas no body fighting 4 wat shis played deas no nid 4 everybody 2 watched it coz if Luisa n Cardigng still stayin 4eva n live in piec i know dat da story takes no serious.

but 4rm mi own point of view, all chactyers of da story were cute n da movie wqs so cool, n plant a gud message in our hearts nwaterin by our tirs comin down wen we watched it.

even Menang n Idad n ol people dey play beautiful n fruitful parts in da story, all i want is to let dem married in da ril li4 but nofin we can do cos Cardin is now big olda dan Luisa.

***Lisa Green Iosefo
hi everyone I LOVE GULONG!!!!!!!! i even downloaded the songs without a clue of what it means...it just brings tears to my eyes

***anywho anyone got pics of Diego...omg i love him

i miss u Luisa and Carding!!

***Its not suprising anymore to be called "Carding" "Diego" or "Totoy" and "Luisa" or "Saling" for girls in the streets nowadays. Ever since the introduction of the soap "Gulong ng Palad" here in Fiji it seems that we Filipinos are looked at at having a high standard of personality level than their own. It is amusing to also notice in newspapers actual Fijians praying for characters in the series for a better outcome of the character's harsh situations. With these new (well to them) past time favorites, there is this innocent question that arises. "Ano sana ang nagyari kung tayong mga Filipino ang nag introduce at nag distribute ng mga palabas na ito?". Alam naman nating malaking pera yan. Nationwide na ang showing coverage ng Gulong ng Palad thru the irritating sales of pirate kings most notably the one company named "Comsol".
As far as we are concern this is a serious matter. It is a happy occasion that the hard-driven life culture inspired of a Filipino is finally making sense to the eyes of many but in an unfair way. The storyline of "Gulong" as it is occasionally uttered mindlessly, is about a girl and boy who are close and love each other but are universe apart in terms of financial aid. The main lesson of the story(as many has claimed) is "hard work pays off and the wheel of life will turn to your favor if your worthy enough"
Surely we are all thinking of the same thing, this "lesson" means nothing to Comsol but their wheel of life is fun to imagine because it must have erupted into an economic term called "boom". A time when maximized profit is at hand.
After sometime, Gulong lost most of its loyal viewers to another Filipino series entitled "Sa Piling Mo". A new hit! It is weird enough to walk in a crowded place anywhere in Suva and notice a wrong-spelled Filipino titles with their respective actors' photos in colored A4 sized printed banner. The madness dont stop.
English subtitled Filipino movies are also out! What will happen when this all dry down?

well? what can you say? filipino movies are making waves in the islands! kewl azzzz!!!

Faces of Vietnamese Phim Bo that's Vietnamese language for Drama/Series.

Blouse Trang (White Blouse), is a 70-part TV series which portrays the lives of doctors and nurses in a general hospital. In particular, the show follows the challenges and conflicts faced by three talented young doctors: Thanh, Hung, and Thy Oanh.

All three are ambitious and work to realise professional success by following different paths, but share a common realisation that their most important duty is saving peoples lives.

"Blouse Trang is a story of modern youngsters who work hard to earn a living and progress rapidly in their careers," said the series director, Tran My Ha.

Ha says his series is a message for Vietnamese youngsters who sometimes forget traditional values in the pursuit of money and career status. "I believe young viewers can learn valuable lessons from the show and its characters," said Ha.

The script for the series was written by Nguyen Manh Tuan, a popular screenplay writer. Tuan and Ha worked together to adapt the screenplay for TV.

"Our story is a real story," Ha said, adding that he and Tuan spent nearly two years writing the script.

Lauded as one of the countrys most talented directors, Ha has attracted large youth audiences for previous films such as Giua Dong (Mid Stream) and Ong Ca Ho (Mr Ca Ho).

"Many critics are concerned that Vietnamese audiences prefer foreign movies over local ones. But I believe that with our quality films, we will attract movie fans, despite the domination of Korean and Chinese films," Ha said.

Before making Blouse Trang, Ha asked the actors to visit two inner-city hospitals.

"I wanted the film to reflect the true lives of doctors. They are ordinary people who must work like superman to care for their patients."

"I want Blouse Trang to be a realistic story. I hope real-life doctors can see themselves in the film."

He explained that doctors differ in personality, lifestyle and age, but they all share the same dedication to helping people.

"We contacted many doctors, particularly young doctors and nurses in the city. This way we could understand their lives and the hardships they face. Their energy and talent made a strong impression on us," said Tuyet Thu, who plays Thy Oanh.

"I love this series, and my role. Through my work, I can learn about different experiences and feel confident and powerful in finding my true path," she said.

Tuyet Thu is particularly enthusiastic about a scene in which Thy Oanhs boyfriend ends their relationship because he thinks that she loves her patients more than she loves him.

"Thy Oanh cries that medicine is her destiny and becoming a doctor is her role and her duty," Thu explained. "Thy Oanh faces trials that only doctors like her can understand. She devotes her all time to caring for her patients. I hope everyone will understand the difficulties that female doctors like Thy Oanh face."

Home-grown movie "The Home Song Stories" to hit big screen
By Ng Baoying, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 09 July 2007 1617 hrs

Joan Chen (L) and Qi Yu Wu in 'The Home Song Stories'

SINGAPORE : Unrequited love, betrayal and secrets may be the recipe for disaster in real life.

But in reel life, it's the recipe for a hit movie.

What happens when a beautiful lady uproots herself from the culture that celebrates her, to one that she just cannot seem to grasp?

Based on writer-director Tony Ayres' own life story, "The Home Song Stories" poignantly explores the life of this lady and her two young children.

Expect lovely scenes shot in Australia, and a masterful cast in the movie.

International star Joan Chen is the leading lady, while MediaCorp actor Qi Yu Wu plays a supporting role.

And it seems he's as much the heart-throb in real life as he is in the movie.

"I fall in love with a Chinese woman, and then after that I fall in love with her daughter, so it creates a lot of trouble," said the actor.

Qi Yu Wu is the first of MediaCorp's stable of artistes to set aside a year, specially for movies.

MediaCorp hopes more will follow suit.

"We hope that he will not be the last, that he will pave the way for other local artistes to set time aside to focus on movies as well," said Daniel Yun, Managing Director of MediaCorp Raintree Pictures.

Things are also looking good with MediaCorp's steady stream of hit movies, but it is not always smooth sailing.

"One of the biggest challenges would be, everytime you see Asian faces, whether speaking English or not, it's classified as an art house film in the Western market. Asian filmmakers have always tried to break out of that mould," explained Yun.

And this movie may just do that, especially after overwhelming responses from screenings in Berlin, Cannes and Australia.

"The Home Song Stories" will be in local theatres at the end of August. - CNA /ls

Asean Mini-series: Rouge

site w/ video streaming:
http://www.mtvasia.com/rouge/show.html

MAIN SHOW SYNOPSIS

With the dawn of the 21st Century, crime has taken on a new and dangerous face. The criminals of the Millennium-Generation are far more complex that those of the past. They are devious, dangerous and totally devoid of ethics and emotions. Who is this evil fraternity who have created chaos and stealthy pandemonium in Asia and the world? Who will save us from this cloak and dagger malevolence?

Enter ROUGE, a team of four sophisticated professionals, armed with good looks, musical talent and kick-@$$ martial arts skills. Working for The Organization and headquartered in Singapore, these multi-faceted women become part of a covert team with agents spanning the vast terrain of Asia. With missions as varied as technology retrieval, foiling biological warfare attempts, kidnappings and sabotage endeavors, Rouge soon discover a sinister menace, The Brotherhood; the most intricate counter-spy network in the world, with intentions on global domination.

Together with their operations handler, Hong, these rock stars by day and undercover agents by night keep Asia safe from The Brotherhood, all in the name of peace, justice and freedom.

PREMISE

Ling, Thuy, Pamela and Pat are the best at what they do, but like you and me, are flawed personalities. Whether in combat boots or high heels, the ladies are ready to take on any mission or sell-out performance in total style. A general guide for the show is the unique formula combining high-octane action and plot twists with humor and wit.

The premise stems from the contrast between the duality of their existence; a famous pop group versus a covert spy unit; completing their mission whilst grappling with female dominance, competitive and individual urges, and issues of friendship, trust and teamwork. The stories have a strong narrative through-line, never resorting to situation or slapstick comedy, are witty, slick, pace-y, extreme, action-oriented and even the most seemingly fluffy missions are rooted in real threats and high stakes.

Underage

Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONSHvUq7eOg

Your Song Presents: Underage brings a whole new twist to the movie classic which originally starred Dina Bonnevie, Maricel Soriano, and Snooky Serna. “In our version of Underage, we followed the original story. It is a story of 3 country girls, how their lives turned out when they transferred to the city and how they met the first men in their lives. But that’s the only similarity with the original. In terms of treatment, it is very different. Most of you watched probably the original version and we know that it’s a camp classic. Our treatment of this remake is not campy. It’s more real, it’s updated and more truthful,” said Director Manny Palo during their press conference last Wednesday, February 25.

This is why it was unnecessary for Melissa Ricks, Empress Schuck, Lauren Young, Matt Evans, Rafael Rosell, and AJ Perez to watch the original version because they were required to add a modern touch to their roles. Fortunately for Direk Manny, he didn’t even have to convince Melissa and Matt to show more skin in this project. “The first project that I did in ABS-CBN was also a Your Song, featuring the two of them. The theme of that episode was unwanted pregnancy and young marriage. Matt and Melissa had their first kissing scene and love scene in that episode. They said that for this UNDERAGE episode, they’re willing to go more daring, more adventurous. So I guess they can go a little more daring,” he reasoned.

But even though Underage was shot back in the ‘80s, the cast then had really portrayed a lot of sexy scenes like men being seen in their underwear or women who are out to seduce as many boys as they can. Will this still reflect on the TV version knowing that children could easily tune in to its Sunday afternoon airtime? “It’s all in the treatment. Of course I am working with underage actors so every scene should be handled with care. At the same time, there will be unforgettable scenes like when the 3 girls are taking a bath in the bathroom, Matt will accidentally have a peek on them. Mel will take revenge. She's going to do a different kind of striptease at the waterstream where they will have their first date. She really took off her clothes one by one, and even her underwear. It is exciting as well as the scenes before and after that,” he further explained.

There are also lots of valuable lessons to be learned through this show. Even the cast members admitted that they have come to appreciate their personal experiences as teenagers because of this project. “What I like about being underage is that, you get to experience a lot of stuff. Like what Matt said, you’re still dependent on your parents so there’s no real pressure. You still get to experiment and enjoy life while you’re still young,” exclaimed Lauren.

Empress on the other hand is grateful to have her mom to guide her in making decisions. “Ever since my “Ang TV” days, she has been with me until now. That’s what I like, even though I get passed my underage years, I still would like to have her beside me.” Melissa was quick to agree. “Maybe because when you’re underage, you don’t have to worry about so many things because your parents take care of everything and you get away with anything you’re still young. You still don’t know the what’s right or wrong. That’s what you should watch out for in Underage, the mistakes that we will commit, and how we will be able to fix them.”
