You know who they are and their reasons vary but most of these bashers say the same thing: Japan is responsible for WWII. Were any of you guys alive during that time? Are you carrying the trauma and are unleashing your anger on the next generation of Japanese? You guys are doing a good job in keeping the hate and anger alive. Leave history in the past but don't impose your hatred on the future generations that want to develop a productive relationship. I'm not Japanese, but we can learn from the Jews who choose not to hate their oppressors but instead, choose to prosper and carry on to live a productive life without having to come up with a cop-out attitude by blaming the past. Take credit for forging your successes but don't blame others on choosing to bring the failures of the past for your mistakes. I can hear it coming when all you bashers try to justify your arguments, save it for the history buffs coz the future has not been written yet and hopefully you're anger/hatred will not be a part of it. One more thing: have you noticed that not too many Japanese reply to these bashers? They know that they live with that Japanese guilt, same as white guilt, they refrain from saying anything that will be used against them, good or bad.

These bashing threads are a mainstay in every Asian forum. There's nothing to say that will not be attacked, argued with and, if it was an apology, would not be accepted.

If they outlawed Japan bashing in this forum, 50% or more of the posters would leave for another forum.

It's conditioning, I think. In the Hmong chat forum was an article about how the Lao govt exploited Hmong women and turned them into fu-k machines for Lao soldiers. Not one poster condemned the Lao people or govt. In fact, most had nothing whatsoever to say about it.

You can call it hate, but from Korea and China, it seems more that they want Japan to fully acknowledge and sympathize with the crap that Korea and China felt. The Imperial Japanese invasion is an exceptionally defining period in Chinese and Korean history, just as defining as the Holocaust for Jews. You can even say that modern China and Korea are products of that war. Naturally, it ranks pretty important to the Chinese and Japanese, and the inundation of inane comments by high ranking Japanese officials on recent things like Nanjing and comfort women, plus the general apathy and cold attitude the Japanese seem to have on the occupations doesn't help matters much. To the Koreans and Chinese, it almost seems like justice denied.

I dont hate japan though. I have a lot of japanese friends, since i was young. But the history stuff does piss me off. and having people say "Well, Japanese people are nice now" just isnt gonna cut it. They could be the nicest people on the planet and give us the coolest video games and cartoons, but thats not gonna change the fact that what happened in the past was really fu-ked up and unnecessary. I've actually taken both the Japanese and anti-Japanese sides before. But it's a lose-lose situation either way, might as well waste your energy elsewhere. I mean, if you take the Japanese side, you're seen as someone who is watering down history, a traitor. If you take the anti-Japanese side, you're seen as a rigid pig who can't forgive.

I don't think Japan is responsible for WWII, but they definitely contributed to it. And there's a big difference between forgiving and forgetting, history should never be forgotten. I've forgiven Japan for what they've done, yes mostly because I wasn't alive for that era, but I will never forget.

Well Germany fully acknowledges their past mistakes in committing horrendous crimes of war. You don't see Angela Merkel going to a Hitler shrine either. Japan and sadly Japanese people will get their due until it seems that top level officials are not still perpetuating lies that Japan attacked the rest of Asia for self defense and that Korean and Chinese women willing whored themselves on a massive scale. Japan can apologize as much as it wants in the political language of treaties, but people will still be angry when it's apparent that no one in the government has actually expressed atonement for past mistakes. It's easy for the Japanese to just say "Get over it, what's past is past," but they have to remember that the blood of war stains the psyche of nations that faced brutal aggression for quite a long time.
