Hi all! Kumusta Po Kayo? Right now, I’m working on a comic, and one of the characters came from the Philippines. However, I’m not familiar with Filipino culture, so I really need your help to give a name to my character (a boy). I’ve already got a name that I like from the internet, “Rafael Dalisay”. Please tell me what you think of this name, especially if you think the name is in any way offending or inappropriate. If you want, you can recommend names that you think would be more suitable.
Thank you in advance for your help! Maraming-maraming Salamat Po!

Dalisay already sounds good for a filipino last name in your comic, but change his first name to something more filipino like Intong , Ambong, or Dagul something like that :P

Rafael is a little hispanic why not change it to Paeng which is very pinoy.

I think Pedro or Juan would be perfect for a comical character.

Intong , Ambong, or Dagul? Sounds good, but I thought most of you have accepted Hispanic names as your own? At first I named him "Rafael Concepcion", but I want to put a more "native" feeling to it, so I change it to Dalisay. And I thought "Paeng" is the nickname for "Rafael"?
Seriously you guys, should I give him a Hispanic first name or a native name? I want him to represent the real Filipinos.

use a nickname like buboy instead of the first name. nicknames always seem to takeover the first name anyway

Hmm... I'm torn between Hispanic and Native names here.... Okay, let's try this another way: I want a Kapampangan name!

If you want a to represent the filipino everyman he has to have a Latin name. A native name would be too exotic or too regional i think.

What is the personality of the Filipino Character on your Comic. Is he/she a Muslim or a Christian Filipino? On what Province did he/she came from? Is he/she a Chinoy, Ameratian, mixed race?
Anyone here on Asiafinest, Filipino Chat can give very nice names, but it is better if you provide some backgrounder on this Filipino Comic Character of yours so as to give us some sort of reference for us to give the appropriate name for your character.say for example if it is male muslim filipino, then I would suggest you name him Mr. Titing Hamil or Mr. Abduraza Macadindang...
If he is from the Cordillera, I would suggest Mr. Bugauen Puday...
If he is from the Tagalog Region, I would suggest Mr. Islaw Batungbakal, Mr. Tenorio Baluyot, Mr. Etong Biglangawa...
If a lumad from Mindanao, Mr. Saliling Pendaupan or Mr. Malambo Manpatilan...
and so on and so fort.

Hmm... his background, huh? Let's just call him Paeng for now. Paeng is a boy from a small town. His skill in basketball has granted him a scholarship in a bigger city. Aside from sports, he's quite an ordinary boy. He's in his church's choir, but not because he has any particular interest in it, it's because he has set his eyes on someone in the choir. He doesn't feel very comfortable with the lot, so maybe he will leave the choir, or maybe he won't. Recently, he has also taken interest on Kapampangan literature. He wants the national language to be more assertive to the variety of languages of the Philippines. His idol is Jose Rizal.
Enough info? I hope so. Salamat pu!

I think you should probably give him a real Filipino surname and a Hispanic first name with a Filipino nickname like the name you suggested earlier, Rafael "Paeng" Dalisay
