I don't know, how valid these statements are. George Bush may have been referring to how he felt God was guiding his actions, but may not have meant that he could hear God's voice literally. Afghanistan had a legitimate reason to be invaded, yet Iraq does not since it appears that in hindsight that the US acted too hastily.
Bush didn't rise to power simply by accident, I would like to point out. Although, I don't support Bush as I don't even agree with his party's politics, I want to point out that he might not be as dumb as people like to say. Bush may have had come from an influential family, but other powerful men sought it fit to trust Bush to run in the Republican presidential primary. Bush rose to prominence in spite of his speech mishaps. That has to account for something, it may be he has a habit of making himself appear stupid by the things he says, but Bush is still charismatic. Somehow he managed to charm the American people, and if he was in your country he may still charm your people still.

Bush isn't dumb or weak by any means. He's simply backing a policy which many people hate.

Bush has the regular guy charm. He sounds like an Texas football coach. On the other hand, Kerry and Gore seem like snobs. However, you have to look at Bush's actions. Despite his charming persona the guy made / makes major mistakes.

Many people were angry at the US invasion of Afghanistan. I suppose Bush had to attack to avoid looking weak. Bill Clinton would have done the same thing. It was bound to happen.
FYI: The Comedy Channel did a show mocking Bush. It was shown before 9/11. He didn't seem like a bad dude then.
