anyone who is an expert or near expertise knows about this vietnamese last name?
I searched through the internet and I couldn't find anything. If you could tell me the orgin of it, I would be so grateful!

I think it is a Trieu Chau or Teochow last name.

LOL.... It is not a Vietnamese originated last name. It came from a group of Chinese people in southern China who immigrate to Vietnam during or after WWII.

I think you are thinking of the teochiu last name "Tai". dont know about thai though

Thus, from Tai it is pronounce and spell as Thai in Vietnamese. It is the same how the country Thailand is name after the name of its ethnic group, the Tai.

oh, really? i have a vietnamese born teochiu friend with the last name tai, but i also know a vietnamese girl witht he last name thai.

There are a few Khmers that I know with that last name but I never heard of Viets that have it as their last name.

To is also a Teochow originated last name. However, it doesn't mean that those person are Chinese. They might only be 1/8 or 1/4 Chinese which is nothing. It only mean that that is where it come from. Like my last name Pham as well as many other Vietnamese last name, is also originated from China and came down to Vietnam back when the Han dynasty rule Vietnam. It doesn't mean that I am Chinese.

My last name is To also. According to my mom,my father sides originate from China long ago, but, who gives a $hit?
If I knew which part of me is Chinese I'll get a knife,cut it off , and feed it to the dog.

I have Khmer and Viet inlaws with "Thai" as there last name. They are all of Cantonese ancestry.

"Thai" is usually a Teo-chew last name. Very few Cantonese have this surname. My friend who used to own a Vietnamese poolhall is actually a Teo-Chew Chinese Cambodian married to a Filipina who speaks Vietnamese. His last name is "Thai."
