Planning to go there in August!!! Have u been in Chiang Mai? What's it like as a place to stay for 3 weeks? Whats the exchange rate with the thai baht and USD? Should i bus or train from BKK to Chiang Mai? How much are flights to CM from BKK? thx for any info!

Thai Airways usually charge around the 6000 BHT mark.... there are always the budget-airlines (although they don't offer free drinks or croisants......).. I would have to say that Chiang Mai is my favourite city/region to visit albiet Phrae (Phrae due to family ties) - strong cultural heritage, respectful people, a nightlife that is nowhere (in my eyes anyway) as intimidating as that of certain districts in Bangkok or Pattaya. I would not recommend using the train or bus as the journey time is ridiculously long (although if you do enjoy a long train ride then by all means use the train), I beleive the train takes around 12 hours or so (unfortunatly the Thai governmet has not made the necessary investments in the railways..). Doi Suthep is also situated in Chiang Mai and Lampang is not far.
