i think filipinos are the most successful asian group in the states. mostly thanks to their proficiency in english. in canada they're trailing behind the chinese though.
i've only had a handful of bad experiences with pinoys. filipinos are used to seeing chinese people as condescending assholes (which is pretty much true) so i don't blame them. the majority of full chinese people in the philippines fall into the 'coņo' category. go look up 'coņo' in a spanish dictionary.

because there was a filipino in one of my middle school class, and she looks sort of asian, but her name is spanish.
thats how i got confused.
not until my a few years ago, i finally realize filipinos are asian.

You know, a certain percentage of Filipinos don't classify themselves as Asian? Back in my high school, some thought they were "above" being Asian. Their notions probably come from the fact that they get a separate blank to fill in with the many forms that we have to fill out which says "Pacific Islander" and not "Asian".

because there was a filipino in one of my middle school class, and she looks sort of asian, but her name is spanish.
thats how i got confused.
Surnames weren't necessary until the Spanish wanted a way to easily tax the locals. (To this day many south east asian cultures still don't use surnames) The Spanish created this HUGE book of names for people to choose from. Those bastards.
Chinese people in the Philippines also got their names from this book, but many (if not most) had their existing Chinese names slightly altered to appear more Hispanic and escape the need for a complete name change. Most Filipinos can tell though. It's incredibly obvious. Most of them end in -co or -zon or -son. Dizon, Tanseco, Angquiangco, Uytengco, Tanlimco, Lamson, Ochangco, etc etc etc.
You probably didn't want a response for your post, but I like assaulting people with knowledge. I remember a Chinese-Filipino started a thread in Chinese chat about the surname Dizon and a bunch of idiots assumed it wasn't Chinese.

It seems logical for it's Chinese equivalent to be 李, but I'm not 100% sure.

That's because they'd pick pacific islander if there wasn't a filipino bubble to fill in

thus fu-king up the overall accurate count. Recently they added bi-racial for mixed people to fill in.
