well, he is resigning despite the fact that korea won against japan. He said he is too tired of coaching. He will take a break for 10 years.

Everything is blamed on a coach??

What korea needs to do to have more competitive Football team? ( one that can compete with Europeans, S. Americans )

1. Create Good youth programs. Spot the talent at early age and develop it.
2. Invest in soccer fields. Most High schools still have the mud dirt fields not natural grass. Install irregation, and sods.
3. Baseball is till the number one sports, Soccer is seen as poor mans sports, although it has the international prestige.
4. upgrade K-league. Bring in more international players, and coaches.

Pim Verbeek could be the last Dutch coach for Korea in a long time.
Media need to back off for now .. Don't let the nationalism overshadow rationality.
Implement 1 - 4, first, before demanding a more consistent winning team.

Too bad. He did a good job.

I noticed that as well. A surprising lack of quality footbal fields despite the fact it is such a popular sport.

Truth be told, soccer isn't even that popular in Korea. K-League attendance is consistently dismal. It's only during national team games where people show up in huge numbers.

This also applies for baseball as well.

A veteran coach like him will be missed. Ever since the 02 Cup, I loved this guy, and feels sry because I feel he retired due to netizens.
Fist&ElbowSandwiches
No, I don't think he retired because of internet backlash. laugh.gif

He'd have to be as immature as those internet trash talkers. I think he genuinely got burned out. IT happens to everyone. I don't think it's because of the fans lashing out at him.
jebusrocks
Well, look at some of the Korean entertainers committing suicide mostly due to the netizens.
Fist&ElbowSandwiches
Well, everyone's different in the way they handle these things. The retards who offed themselves because of internet backlash experienced that thing called darwinism.

Who will fill Berveek's place I wonder?
Fist&ElbowSandwiches
Fabio Capello or Aimes Jacquet would be awesome.

I read on another site that the Korean Football Federation is talking to Iraq coach Jordan Vieira
Helanio
the ex korean soccer player who was present during the japan game should take his place.

Hong Myung Bo?

If we're talking about Hong Myung Bo, I think he needs a bit more experience. If a Korean coach is to be put on, (which I doubt); it should be Cha Bum Gun

In sports, former star players rarely make good coaches, though Jurgen Klinsmann of Germany and Marco van Basten of the Netherlands did good jobs with their teams.

I'd prefer a South American or European coach, honestly.

Yes, I think a foreign coach is going to be most beneficial for us.

Quote of the month.

I take back anything negative I said about you in the soccer thread. beerchug.gif
