Next Fall I'm moving to Cali to take language classes at UCLA. I have an uncle that lives in Orange County - Anaheim/Yorba Linda area. So i'm debating commuting from Orange to Westwood where UCLA is. I was just wondering around what times does the traffic die down in the morning commutes? I think My class would start around 9 or 10am. Should I think about commuting or just forget it and live in an area around Westwood. Also what areas are around Westwood that are slightly cheaper then Westwood itself and Hollywood and all that?

That's a real long drive even without traffic. It's a good 30-45 minutes in the middle of the night without traffic. I'd say forget the whole commuting idea and live around Westwood.

thats a pretty long commute, especially in LA traffic. traffic dies down around 10 i would say. you should be good untill 3 o clock then it gets bad again.

my friend actually just got a job out in westwood and has been looking for a place. Its a tough place to get to since traffic there are the worst and rent is super expensive.

good neigboring city is somewhere in the san fernando valley. Anything north of the 101 like Sherman Oaks, Reseda, Granada Hills, encino. Rent can be pretty expensive though. Sherman oaks your talking $1200 for a studio. Reseda maybe $1000 for a studio. Van Nuys is like $800 but its pretty ghetto.

Personally I think the best bet is finding a roomate near UCLA. Here's a good site that I found, http://149.142.49.115/cho/och.htm. since your not a student yet, you can click on the "public listings" page.
