Asia Finest Discussion Forum > Asian Culture > India Chat
Thabo
In 2006, at the London press conference for his film Krrish, Roshan said that he knew it was time to leave Shanghai and Hong Kong after six weeks of stunt training and go home when his eyes started "turning into little slits like the Chinese".

First this guy puts Nepalese down and now Chinese... this is a disgrace to all South Asians across the globe.

lol.But they do have little slits for eyes.
What yuh wanna do fuh dat?

I dont really care about his comment (better than that what rimi said abt blacks) but i do think that these indian actors need a little bit of PR training. It'll really go a long way.

No, they don't. They have smaller eyelids and eyes that slant upwards, not always smaller eyes.

lol.Quoted for truth.I fully agree.

Yes it was racist. 4k you Hritik, you are a disgrace.

He implied that the eyes were an undesirable trait by saying it was time to go home. What a dumbass...say you're tired of Hong Kong, or you're fed up eating Chinese food or something...don't say something like that, which is not only ignorant and insulting but physically impossible

i don't find anything wrong with the comment.

Only an ignorant person would take insult to that slight.

This is minor, and i don't got any time to find something out of nothing.

People love to make an issue even when there is not one.

Hrithik is not a racist at all. He only made a harmless joke which should be taken lightly.

Exactly

I don't see what is there to get upset about.

i've run jokes like that with my asian friends and all they do is laugh.
Stuff like that is nothing to take to heart.

If he was racist, i don't think he'd stay in china for 6 weeks, associating with Chinese.

That is a totally different matter.

I dont see how you can compare that with Hritik Roshan comment.
ssjasper2003
Fudge h. roshan.

Conclusion :

And remarks (racist) made by Indians at non-Indians should be taken lightly or as a joke.

And remarks (racist or not ) made about Indians are considered an offense by Indians.

Case closed.

Most people are racist, and you're not really a position to tell if the joke is harmless or if it should be taken lightly since you're not Chinese...

Don't be naive. Associating with a group or being friends with some doesn't make you not a racist.

How is it different? Some Indians do smell just like some Chinese have slit eyes. The only reason you find it "different" is because you're part Indian and you feel insulted. Don't preach one thing when it's related to you and another thing when it isn't:

You do know that there also are Indians that have "little slits" for eyes icon_rolleyes.gif

What if someone had said that it's about time they left India because they started to develop a red dot on their forehead, would that be the same?

Ok it might be taken as racist

But seriously i don't see what is all the fuss over.
Ok you have a point, i am not chinese so i might not understand but,

I spoke to my Chinese friend about this just now and all he did is laugh.
He says its taken out of proportion.

I know he don't represent the whole chinese population, but he says he really don't let
things like this trouble him.

ACMILAN1983
I don't think he meant to be offensive, but someone in his position (in the public eye) should be more PC. Indian stars often fail in that respect though.

maybe they need to be more diplomatic.
JuicyFruit
It's really not difficult to speak and act with tact. I don't know why it's so difficult for some people.

And you guys shouldn't let the "smell" topics bother you, but it's still offensive.
