Hi, I am here to learn more about Indian people.

First, I want to know how come so many Indian people own motels or mini markets (7-11 particularly). Do Indians have an organization where they train their immigrants to open these or something?

Second, I want to know what Indian people eat. I have never been exposed to Indian food ever, sad, I know! But, I heard Indians enjoying eating curry. If you don't mind, please post pictures. I always enjoy seeing pictures of food.

Third, I want to know more about Indian ethnic characteristics. Like, are your parents strict? Are you pressured to do well in school? Do parents treat girls differently? etc. Is it any different from East Asians? I see many Indians do really well in school.

Fourth, I want to know whether Indians overseas help/support Indians from India. Like to get people out of poverty, etc. By the way, what is the real reason to why India has only recently develop? Did wars or conflicts occured that I didn't know about?

So, ya, I hope I'm not asking for too much! I just want to know more about India and Indian people. Thank you!

Thank you, Mona! I think Indian people are beautiful as well. I've never tried Indian food before, but I'm sure it's super delicious. Can you post some pictures of famous Indian dishes only. I may have to find an Indian restaurant in my city if I find it worth trying. I've never listened to Indian music so I cannot comment on that either.

I read that more than 50% of all motels in america are owned by indians, not sure about 7-11s.

Food, north is more vegetarian & they have naans/chapathis more. South eats more rice & more people are non vegetarians.

My parents arent strict, they expect me to do decently. Yea a bit if shes out till like 12-1 they call & yell at her to come home lol(if she doesnt tell them where she went). Some characteristics maybe.

My dad helps out with donations to evangelical groups(my uncles a pastor) in india, a lot of people are gonna hate me for this lol .

I know two Indians at my school who owns motels, and they are really cool people. How come the north have more vegetarians? Is it a religious thing? I assume most Indians are Hindu, right? 1 billion people is a lot. I hope India is controlling their population!

Oh, one last thing: is Indian considered an ethinicity or a nationality? Because I know Bangladesh girl and she looks totally Indian. So is India made up of many ethnicities like China? If so, are they all treated the same?

The modern term "Indian" refers to nationality; anyone from India. You can't call Bangladeshi girl Indian but you can call her desi or South Asian. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh used to be one country before and they share common history and culture.

Yes, India made up from lot of ethinicity. There like 1000 ethinicity in India. Pretty much they are all treated the same except for the tribal people where they have special seats and jobs reserved for them.

Also something to note, out of the 2.1million millionaires in the US, approximately 10% of them are indians.
That says alot when indians only make up 2 million out of a 300million population.

About 80% of indians are hindu.They are followed by muslims that sit around 14%. The rest is made up of sikhs,jains,parsis,christians and jews.

Vegetarianism is mostly done on religious grounds although there are exceptions. If they do eat meat, Hindu's stay away from beef while Muslims stay away from pork. This is a general rule.
Many hindu's though, do not eat pork as well...(myself included)...but eat other meats.



India was once part of the British empire as you will know. It was under their rule that it slipped into abject poverty and it was then under the strict trade laws that were put in place by post independence governments that kept india behind for so long.Thankfully india has loosen the strings on international investment which contributes to its breakneck pace of economic growth.
India fought(bitter) border disputes with Pakistan and China.They also helped bangladesh gain independance from Pakistan.

the people of pakistan,nepal,bhutan,bangladesh,india and even sri lanka are collectively known as south asians.Although their physical apparence changes as you move from east to west, north to south, they are still the same people.Its kinda like canada and the US.There isnt THAT big of a difference between the people living there although they are 2 distinct countries.
