South Indian people are not proud? That's a silly generalization.
I have an uncle from Kerala and he's proud of his heritage.

They're proud. They just don't feel the need to advertise it.

My favourite restaurant here is South Indian and they seem proud to me. They're actually very nice too, treat me and my family fantastically.

In this article, West India is INCLUDED with NORTH INDIA and even then it is WAYYYYYYYYYYY behind South India.. Now just think about those numbers if West India was excluded from those figures...

North India would be poorer than Pakistan probably even Afghanistan. The only reason why anybody even respects India is because of South West Indians.

I had to explain to my bf that U.P. is poor, how many people are illiterate, and how it's more conservative, because he was shocked that my mom had to wear her dad's shoes to schools and how my grandparents weren't educated. His grandparents and greatgrandparents were far better off than my family.

This isn't a reason to look down on North Indians though. You just got to make the most of what you got.

Back in 1940's South India was far worse off than N. India. It was only in the last 10-15 years, southern india became economically progressive.

She didn't have any shoes to wear, because her family was poor. Her dad's shoes were all what was available at the moment. I think she had like 10 siblings or so..My mom is university educated, but she went to a Hindi speaking university and didn't know English when she first moved to America.

My mom was born in the mid-50's, so she start going to school in the 60's or so.

North India was once great, a great place where people like aryabhata ( although it's possible that he came from kerala ) , bhramagupta and Sushruta Samhita lived !

And the Bhagvad Gita, which teachs us to defend and to fight without forgetting the principles of dharma ,-to adore action without looking for fee ! ( the way of the noble people ! ), was developped in north india.

But if you wish we can go also the other way ! A country where people make fun of each other , - where our gods are coming from bollywood, with their straight faces and their fair skins.
