So, you are planning on visiting Vietnam but short on cash eh!
I'd go during the monsoon season if a cheap deal is an important factor.
Typically, the monsoon season in Vietnam starts approximately around August or September but may vary according to different regions. The price is always and has been very steep around Tet. Same can be said for summer season.

I went to Vietnam this July and it was $1400 for a ticket. I’ve just asked my friends and they told me that ticket would be like $800 for Sept, Oct, March, April, so I guess I just have to wait and see if it’s true or not.

you could fly to cambodia then take a bus across the border to vietnam?

Anyway, I think 800 bucks is a pretty darn good deal I've come across so far. If you could get an $800 ticket for March, more power to you.
