OK. I'm getting a new car and I'm thinking of getting an import for fuel efficiency and longevity purposes. The thing is that I don't know much about cars except that I want a car with an attractive exterior, my budget is between $15,000 - $25,000, and it's gotta have decently good speed. Right now I'm looking at the Nissan Sentra and Altima Coupe, Honda Civics, etc. I need advice on what to look for when searching for the right car for me.

it's not worth it. the depreciation is crazy. you can buy something like 1 yr old or newer used and it's pretty much the same less instant depreciation off the lot.

OK... narrowing it down to either a MAZDA3 or MAZDA6. I should really get a vehicle that saves on gas but I like a little speed and a nice exterior... going to get it next week ^_^

Mazda 3 is a nice little car, can't go wrong there.
Same chassis as a Ford Focus, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Here's the best way to get a car. Buy it used, but get it checked out first at a mechanic you trust. It will save you tons, not only on the car, but because used cars are much cheaper to insure. Just ask the person to bring it to a mechanic of your choice (who you pay in advance for the inspection).
I guess the problem is finding the good mechanic in the first place. I know a good Chinese and Vietnamese mechanic. They've saved me literally thousands.
Avoid Ford and Chrysler. Anything else is fine.
Good luck.

I went ahead and bought the Focus SES 2008. I actually love it. It's got a good steering radius, suspensions, exterior, and leather seats. I like the satellite radio, its already cool stock sound system, SYNC, and everything about it. I also got a sun roof and the rims are neat! For its price and advanced technology, I definitely recommend it.

From personal experience, the motor isn't what you should be worried about a ford. It's the quality of the interior materials and the exterior trim materials. Through time gaps become more apparent. Granted, its only a 2000 Mustang with less than 50 000kms on it
