I own about 9 wardrobes of those dresses so far that are personally tailored by my aunt. -Top laces and skirts. I only worn them to New Years and weddings...most of them still fits me, plus people did borrowed it for Asian Heritage Night for our school. I have a packload of silk materials that hasn't been cut, and waited to made more in the future.

Same here, I seen some better ones in karaokes and magazines..they have more of that lacy ones and rather simple and sleek. I like the design on the bridemaids' dresses..

Notice how the skirts aren't as short ~_^.

Wow....i like the colors. as for the khmer dresses. they are sooo uncomfortable to wear! they are sooo fitted that 6 months later they dont fit ......so more alteration is needed. i prefer natural or soft color for me complextion. something like peach or so.

the seamstresses have skills though. i am amazed
they're really popular here in CT. people wear them to weddings all the time. a lot of them look fobby though but some are really nice. yeah i bought a whole bunch when i went to cambodia and now they dont fit me anymore. the material isn't stretchy. so i plan to get a lot of new onces when i go this november.
i need to come up with designs... wanna help me? heh.

^hahaha. true to that. i dont want to just sit there looking pretty for new year but I STILL DO. at least to temples. i dont go the parks or homes. i go to the temple with food for the monks. the rest of the year will be mine, but for a few days i will gladly support my tradition and by that, i will start with wearing traditional clothes.

This somewhat traditional outfit looks cute.

Those traditional dresses look very nice and unique.

I also notice that Khmer clothing usually use colorful and shiny materials such as satin.
I can tailor women fashion tops and pants, also men suits, but I never made long dress, and I don't know how. However I rarely wear anything of my own design, simply because I don't have time and lazy to tailor my own clothes. I prefer light color and simple design, to meet my convenience.

For the first two..Kambolishuz posted twice, but those are just all pictures and she's doing that by separating the styles. I mean you can post twice..when you're posting something long..right? And as for Chiza..it seems like its a minor mistake, since she came back and quoted the guy.

I agree with you completely chiza... there's people in here that all they do is post racist $hit, yet I still haven't seen them get a single warning. No disrespect for the mod (double post IS double post) but who gives a fu-k?!?! It's not like they doin it on purpose to try and up their post count or something. Why don't you give em a verbal warning instead. That way you can concentrate on the racist fu-ks that are derogatory to everyone in here, instead of people speaking amongst themselves about their dresses not even bothering anyone.

This is the reason I especially like New Years or other Khmer festivals: cause I get to see you ladies in these dresses. I think the dresses really bring out the beauty in you. (as super cheesy as that may sound..hehe) I just speakth the truth again.
NitaKang
Jul 29 2004, 09:54 AM
I also think that Khmer dress reflects the lady's personality. When I wear a khmer dress, my blouse is usually long sleeved or somtimes I would wear a white collared shirt over the silk pahmuong..to keep it easy and not a complicated look. Sometimes, when some young girls wear them to the temple..they overly done their pahmuong and the slits are a bit high...

I notice her bracelets are distinctively Khmer, but the rest of the outfit looks very Thai to me sorry. The style of her top and the patterns on her dress is something you'd see more often in Thai dress from what I've noticed. I think it's something where Khmer seamstress borrowed the style from Thai.

You people shouldn't be expecting any impartiality in AF. There is none whatsoever. Some MODs in AF are complete fools. They must have slept their way to become MOD. Read this commie propaganda from a MOD and how I got him to shut his hole up for good
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33146 .
I can't wait to see that wannabe, "donkey of the century" becoming MOD. I have no doubt that he will eventually become one because after all this is AsiaFinest. I'd love to feed him more shlt just like I've fed shlt into that supernovsp.
And back on topic: That dress above does not look like a traditional Khmer dress in my opinion. It looks like a generic traditional dress in any Indianised culture. It could fit easily in to Bali, Thailand or even Java. There is nothing uniqely Khmer in that dress. Again, that's just my personal opinion.
