Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan October 13, 1948 - August 16, 1997 his family originally from Afghanistan became one of Pakistans greatest singers. He sang in the Qawali, Ghazal and Sargam tradition and contributed greatly to both the Pakistani and Indian music industry. His songs promoted and encouraged peace between Indians and Pakistani's, Hindus and Muslims and ideally everyone regardless of religion, race etc. He was quite an adaptable singer too. He often paired up with musicians from the west and performed live infront of western audiences most notably the Womad festivals.
Here is one of his performances Allah Hoo at WOMAD I believe this is in Canada.
