Full Version: Vietnam chosen to host Miss Universe 2008
Well, so Vietnam will have a contestant represent Vietnam next year, too. 
i think thats awesome. Hanoi and HCM should have been more enthusiastic about this. I personally think it should be held in Hanoi.

No, I think they should find someone new, nothing against Mai Phuong Thuy. We shouldn't reuse her.
Mai Phuong wasn't that pretty to begin with. Honestly, all the contestants that Vietnam send were all ugly. Mai Phuong was the better looking one but it doesn't mean she is beautiful.
The estimate cost for the preparation for this event is 15 millions. I think Miss Vietnam would have a bigger chance to win the online vote if this pagent is hosted in VietNam..

Is this article even real? I can't find any mention of this anywhere else and the article doesn't even give a definite answer as it even says Japan is still campaigning for it.

The last time Nigeria hosted the Miss World pageant, the event was an incredible FUBAR (fu-ked Up Beyond All Recognition) - what with Muslims fundamentalists rioting in the street and the riots causing at least 100 deaths. Vietnam has plenty of experience hosting major events, so hosting the Miss Universe Pageant is well within our logistical abilities. However, we need to pay attention to the Internet access and broadcasts, which are certain to strain our broadband capabilities. We are also supposed to have several five-star hotels available and if they are, my expectations is that they will be booked solid.

Vietnam is not rich, she still developing, maybe by 2020 she will be ok but not wealthy.
Vietnam needs to meet the requirements before the deadline to be host city. If Vietnam meets the deadline then Vietnam will host the pageant. IF not then other countries (Japan and Spain) can compete for it.

It is nice to hear that Miss Universe is returning to Asia. Asians have proven before that they are one of the most gracious host of the pageant ( Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea ). Between Vietnam and Japan, i would prefer to see Vietnam hosting this pageant.
Like in the past, the actual host of the Miss Universe pageant turned out not the one originally mentioned. So i guess, don't get too excited over this news yet. I won't be suprised the hosting job will end up in Japan, Spain or even in other countries not mentioned yet.
The only set back of Asian countries hosting it would be having the final held in the morning to coincide with the prime time in US. In 2005 the pageant was held in Thailand and if I was not mistaken, it was held very early about 8.00 am or 9.00 am.

I donīt know. I donīt think hosting Miss Universe is that important to get all excited about it. What are the advantages of being the host? Iīve never seen such kind of event being broadcast on German television and I donīt think it will attract many tourists to VN.

Well, there are advantes. The contestans from all over the world can visit some places in vietnam, buy things there and such things are good for the economy of vietnam.

Actually, South vietnamīs contestant got under top 10 in miss universe 1971, whereas with the communist vietnam, vietnam never placed under top10 anymore.
