Of course haven't you seen the movie Shaolin soccer?
I don't know if those pictures represent "soccer", there were nothing to indicate any goal posts or even a goalie. All I see is a bunch of men kicking a ball.
I would say the Chinese invented kick ball, but not soccer the game.

It doesn't matter, we invented GUNPOWDER, the COMPASS, PAPER, and all sorts of stuff.
It doesn't prevent westerners from cannibalizing our achievements

Both soccer and baseball are equally boring. But at least in baseball the games don't end with low scores like 1 - 2, 1 - 0 or even sometimes 0 - 0 lol

Baseball is a great sport you just have to understand how the game works to appeciate it. THere is so much strategy and tension.
Soccer is fun to play and its very exciting to watch the world cup because of the national pride involved.
Golf I bet is fun to play although I never had the opportunity.
I think races are pretty boring to watch

Ancient China 2500 BC
The earliest mention researchers have found of a soccer like game is in China. The ball was made of animal skin that were kicked through a gap in a net stretched between poles 30 feet high. Records indicate that "tsu chu" was played as a part of the emperors birthday celebration. The Chinese also played some form of the game to train soldiers during the Ts'in Dynasty (255 BC- 206 BC.) According to the records, Tsu chu was also played extensively during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD.).

The three favorite sports that I like to watch are Baseball, Football (NOT Soccer bah!), and Golf so fu-k you
Hockey, Basketball... they're TOO MUCH. Damn fun to watch for about 5 minutes, but I get dizzy from all the action after a while. I like sports that are more laid back, you could grab a beer and use the toilet without missing a thing. It's tiring to be glued to your seat, your eyes permanently fixated on the TV screen for 2~3 hours. And it's good way to freak out others and convince them that you're a psychopath.

This wasn't ever a surprise. Almost every civilization at one time or another have a sport that involved kicking a round ball, but it was the British that put the sport in to play and standarized it with rules and how the game to be played in the 19th century. At first it was played with kicking and using hands, then it splitted into two, football (soccer) and rugby.
I think every sport is fun if you play it. Right now I gotta say soccer is my favorite sport. The one sport where any country around the world can play. And I love catching up with the latest news in the world of Football in Europe and Asia.
Football is the most boring for me now. Maybe a game of catch at the beach or park, but definitely can't stand watching it. And I used to play football in high school, what a waste of time and injuries.
Basketball, fun to play with friends, but boring to watch those overpaid "African-American" jumping around.
Volleyball - fun to play, but I have no clue about the official games and stuff, so never watch it.
Golf - Fun to play and watch.
Tennis - good for a saturday morning game with your buddy, but boring to watch.
Baseball - fun to play, but so boring and pointless to watch.
Ping pong - is this even a sport? If this is a sport than they better make foosball a sport too.

Did the Chinese set-up the rules, the format of football? If they didn't, that's hardly a claim for invention of this beautiful sport.
It was the Brits who made the rules, the format, the organization of the pitch, and the concept.
Like fiji said, I'm sure in all civilizations, there were pasttimes involving a ball.
