Michelle went to Katong Convent, Temasek Junior College, and Nanyang Technological University where she received her degree of mass communications at the School of Communication Studies. She then went to work at the now-defunct Go Magazine as an intern where she was "discovered" as a model (picked unsuspectingly to appear on the cover of the May 1996 issue) and then signed up with the agency Elite Models. Her first big break came in 1997 when Aaron Kwok picked her to be in his music video that was part of Hong Kong Telecommunication Network's TVC 'One 2 Free' advertising campaign. Michelle then went on to star in the series "Threshold of An Era" with Luis Koo, and had major roles in the movies "Bullets Over Summer" (1999) and "Skyline Cruisers" (2000), where she had to dye her hair orange. In 2000 she released her first Mandarin solo album titled Upfront. In 2001 Michelle was sued by her Taiwanese management company for breach of contract. The case was settled and she was back at it in 2002, now with Hype Records as her managing agency. She starred in the serial drama "Fantasy" as a blind and talented singer. She then, as most people know, landed the role of Ye Sha in Meteor Garden II. In 2003 Michelle is busy filiming the dramas Baby Boom (she plays a working woman) and Champion (she plays a swimming and diving instructor).
