This was a movie by Oliver Stone, the third edition in his Vietnam trilogy, was a movie about a young Vietnamese girl in the mist of the Vietnam War. Unlike the previous movies in his trilogies, Heaven and Earth turns away from the American experience and depicted the life of Phung Thi Le Ly Hayslip, a villiage girl who was caught in between the struggle between North and South. I thought this was a very good movie because it told the story of the Vietnam war that many people don't know. Even though the movie was mostly in English, I thought it did an excellent job of protraying Vietnamese culture and values. It is such a great movie, I'm surprise that many Vietnamese people don't know about it.

Spectacular
This is a great movie.

I really admire Ly Hayslip not just for being brave but for being a good child and a good mother to her children too. It is very tragic that she has to deal with all those tortures . I myself couldnt bear what she went through. As what I see on that film Vietnam was a peacful country before it was disturbed by American Fighting planes , tanks and its soldiers. Hayslip was not just a part of being a Vietnamese but she became a part of American life too. She brought her belief to America. She never gave up being a vietnamese herself until she got back to Vietnam.
I dont remember how many times Ive watched this film but Im positive that I will watch this again.
Thumbs up for Ly. biggthumpup.gif

Good movie. It moved far too quick towards the end. I like the monologue at the end by the brother, very well done... "like ants beneath the elephant's feet".

Hiep Thi Le is a babe!

Regardless of what your political views are, everyone should see this movie. The director did an excellent job of being objective to the various sides of this time. Phung Thi Le Ly was a VC sympathizer yet ended up marrying an American. I thought this movie portrayed the Vietnamese experience better than any other movie. I encourage every1 to go buy the DVD.
