actually Lombok is like the next Bali and also Bunaken in manado is famous for their coral reef, so alot of divers go there.

Yet, Manado & Tomohon of North Sulawesi's lands became expensive for the last few years. Yes, very expensive. Many Dutch & Europeans purchased lands in Tomohon & not to mention the Indo Chinese.

uluwatu bvlgari resort in bali is $2,000 a night. its where donatella versace & her entourage go to unwind when they are in the south pacific. id never pay that much for a hotel. nikko bali is just as good with KILLER views facing the indian ocean & the clean white sand. freakin HEAVEN. so much cheaper too. there are even lower prices for luxury resorts in jimbaran.

psssttt.... losty, you have Indonesian heritage, right? If you have a flawless Bahasa Indonesia, no one would would notice you are a foreigner. You can go to the penginapans and haggle furiously to get a "local" price

That's part of Jakarta where the poorer area is and that's normal also happened in many countries but the truly Jakarta isn't like that. Jakarta is the most populated comercial areas in the south east asia, that's the fact.

Actually, I think that poverty is a defining feature of Jakarta. The contrast with the wealth you are talking about is the thing that makes Jakarta such a crazy and fun place. A city like Singapore is much cleaner and richer, but also way more boring...
