Full Version: Pacing In American Comics And Japanese Manga

AFter reading a certain amount of manga, I'm starting to think that American comics must be perceived by the Japanese as moving lightning fast- a 100 page volume can tell a story that is normally told in a 24 page issue.

So are American comics perceived to be that way?

More like, it's shorter with more volumes so they can make more money.

I used to collect spiderman comics and a whole bunch of Marvel character cards until my parents got pissed at me and threw it all out. Now they are complaining why I don't collect things for a hobby and I say "Because when I do, you'd probably throw it all out." madgo.gif

I'm not totally against American comics..I used to read a lot of them but I think the Japanese ones are better because its a bit sale for them in Japan while in the U.S comics are just barely part of the economy. This way, the Japanese take more time on it and are more serious about it, which makes it better altogether.

But what we should also understand about American comics is that Americans color their comics.... ink costs money you know.

I wasn't a fan of American comics... but these days... I'm finding beauty in it just like I do with Korean and Japanese comics. Right now I'm reading BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN and its probably one of the best graphic novels I've read so far.

I also used to think that Japanese art was far more superior than American art but eh... my interest is slowly going to the American side. Just look at the details... Jim Lee's (Korean) artwork is freaking god-like and beats any manga artist anyday.

But anyways... If you people don't like paying 3~4 bucks for like a 10~20 page issue, just read graphic novels. That's what I do. icon_smile.gif
