Incidents like the Hyderabad blasts now reveal a definite pattern that Bangladesh is being used as a hub to trigger terrorist activities in India.
Intelligence and security experts have told NDTV that a Bangladesh link has emerged in virtually every major terrorist strike, be it the blast at Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi last year or the recent twin blasts in Hyderabad.
Sources have also told NDTV that the names of masterminds that have emerged during investigations are suspected to be based in Bangladesh.
They include:
- Abdul Karim Tunda wanted for the serial blasts in Delhi in 1997
- Shahid for the attack on Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2005
- Abu Hamza suspected to be behind the recent Hyderabad twin blasts
- Imtiaz Quddus, mastermind in Sankat Mochan temple blast and
- Shaukat Osman for the blast at the STF office in Hyderabad in 2005
"During Home Secretary level talks we have handed over a list to Bangladesh of individuals like those indulging in anti-India activities," said Pranab Mukherjee, External Affairs Minister.
During the talks last month India had suggested putting in place a mechanism for quick sharing of actionable intelligence and appointing at least a joint secretary level officer for this, however the mechanism is yet to take off.
"Pakistan is now increasingly using Bangladesh through a network of groups based there," said Ajai Sahni, Counter Terrorism Expert.
Officially Dhaka has maintained that no terror group operates from its territory but the reported arrest of Abu Hamza in Bangladesh may well emerge a test case between the two countries.
With increasing number of cases coming to light where Bangladesh is being used as a base to trigger subversive activities in India, the government needs to move fast and initiate some tough measures to check the rising trend.
